Calories in=the amount you eat (and drink if you have beverages other than water)
Calories out=the amount you burn (through daily functions and exercise)

So you want the calories in to be less than the calories out

Eat less total calories than your body burns. Simply put, enter everything into MFP and eat what it recommends.

Calories Out is he amount of calories your body burns up during a day. The amount of CO depends on things like your age, body weight, how active your lifestyle is, and how much additional exercise you do. In MFP you just need to regularly keep your 'Goals' adjusted on your profile. MFP can guide you through this. And also log any additional exercise. Calories In is the amount of food and drink you consume. Again MFP helps you do this, so all you've got to do is weigh and log every single thing that you eat and drink. MFP keeps a track of your daily CICO and tells you in your diary how many calories you've got left. Just make sure your calories remaining is 'green' not 'red' and your CICO is then being managed well.

MFP calculates all that (sleeping, watching tv etc) for you, so you don't have to go into the detail. You just need to set your 'lifestyle' correctly when you set your 'goals'.

Yep. Your body burns calories just running the organs. MFP has already estimated that amount for you, as well as your daily activities (work, school, taking care of the family, chores, socializing) and given you a goal based on that number. And when you exercise, that's even more!
