to log or not to log?

So I am curious to see what ya'll think. I wear a heart rate monitor while working out during both cardio, and weight lifting. Do you log the calories burned from weight lifting or just cardio? (And don't give me crap about this being a "stupid question" there is no right or wrong, and I have my opinion I just want to hear others :) )

HRMs are not reliable for weight training. Depending on the number, I would not log it.

I always went with the MFP entry which gave me 200 calories for an hour. To me, it was enough to give me a few extra calories but not so much it would erase my deficit if incorrect.

If by logging you mean putting the numbers into MFP - sure, if you want to.

If you by logging you mean eating back the calories - that's not a good idea as you're using your HRM wrong and you'll be looking at highly inflated numbers.

I have no idea if I'm doing the right thing but this is what I do. I train for approxan hour and in that hour I try to keep my HR around 140 including my warm up, strength training and cooldown. When I'm weight training I do my sets so that I do my 10 reps, then as soon as my HR drops to 140 I do the next 10. I like to train quickly and efficiently. I don't see the point in sitting around and checking my phone between sets like I see a lot of people doing. Get in, get done and get gone!

If my HRM says I've earned 300 cals I'll eat back 150 of them.

As I say, I have no idea if this is right but I'm loosing weight and keeping muscle so it cant be that bad.

I wear a HRM and have been doing P90 (and have done P90X in the past). These usually have a 'one day cardio one day strength' schedule. I have always eaten back what my HRM has said (Raise your hand if you love food! Pick me!) and I have always lost weight when doing this. I'm not a 'serious' strength person, no cut muscles ever, but I have either lost or maintained while honestly logging all food drink and exercise.

Id only use the HRM for steady state cardio i.e not the weight lifting, which I would put as 1 calorie. HRM is for measuring heart rate.

Definetly not the resistance work as HR isn't representative of calories expended in that scenario. For the CV work it depends on what you're doing.

For running, cycling, rowing and other stuff of that ilk, then yes it should be reasonably accurate, subject to whether you're doing any anaerobic work within the session.
