oh dear lord whoever said excercise was a good thing..they lied

ok so i've been on a bit of a fitness boost now for the past 2 months gradually building up my stamina and fitness activites, as i have set my target of losing approx 3 stone by the end of the year (approx 42lbs) now this saturday was one of the few rare days that we get in england in springtime where it was actually suny and warm all day, this spurred me on the go for a walk along the local canal which is all very pretty and very english contrysidey, normally i would walk for maybe an hour and half and roughly cover about 5 miles.
For some bizarre reason, i can only blame the sun and that i was feeling pretty jolly, i thought it would be a great idea to keep on walking along the canal...7 miles later i reached the next village i had a wonder around stopped for a coffee, people watched for a bit, then thought i had better head back.
At the 10 mile stage on my way back home i came to the conculsion that this had not been one of my best or brightest ideas, as i still had approx 4 miles left until i reached my front door, and lordy lord i can tell you that those last 4 miles were absolute torture, i did eventaully make it back..just before it started to get dark in total it took me 4 hours and 13 mins of walking, and all day yesterday resting my tired feet and legs, everytime i moved i felt like i had done 10 rounds with tyson!!! sooooo rest assured i will not be doing this again in the future however pleasant the day looks.
The moral of my story is dont be a fool like myslef and think you are indestructable, be sensible with your excercise and realistic with your goals, in future i will be sticking to my 5 mile walks and leave the half marathons to others lol!!!! i hope this made you laugh my work collegues have all thought it was hilarious as they are watching me walk like a 90 year old today.

LOL, the warm sun and feeling great will always get you. If you want to increase your mileage, increase your long day by 10% each week. That way the next time you are feeling spry, you can do those 14 with no sweat.0

That's not really what she said, she said the moral was 'be sensible with your excercise and realistic with your goals'. As in don't suddenly push yourself to go twice as hard as you normally do. Which I think is a mistake I've made before and immediately given up on that exercise forever because it felt so horrible!0 -
You should feel very proud of yourself OP. I walk everywhere and also recently did a 14 mile walk and it definitely made me twinge the next day.0

Cold and warm packs depending on how you feel at the moment, Epsom salts and warm water for those tired feet, and stretches, stretches over the next few days.
Hopefully the warm memories will overtake the temporary pain.0
