Frustrated, need some encouragement!

Hi Friends! I am feeling really frustrated this morning. I have been sticking to my calorie limit every day and even managed to get on the treadmill for some quick workouts this week. I've been sick, so I haven't been able to do as much time on the treadmill as I would usually like, but I tried. Anyway, I haven't lost more than a pound this whole week. I am 4.4lbs away from my next goal (not the final, big goal) and I am getting really discouraged being kind of stuck. Any support or encouragement would be great... right now I'm feeling like giving in to my chocolate cake craving!

Everyone has weeks that we don't loose as much as it feels like we should have but what is important is that you don't get discouraged. Keep going0

I have been there (I'm sure we all have) my best advice to you is to not give up not now when you've worked so hard!! Big changes are coming just hang in there try changing up either your work out or your meals a bit sometimes our bodies get used to what we are doing! The one thing I can tell you is all you accomplish by giving up is having to start over again!! Reflect more on what you've already accomplished and let that motivate you to keep going. All of your hard work will pay off I promise!0

Hang in there. Remember it is journey. Maybe the stress of losing the weight is actually causing you not to lose it. When I feel this way I do something fun and active like do go hiking or a night out dancing. It helps me appreciate what my now fitter body can do and takes my mind off the scale for bit.0

I give into my chocolate craving every night:) 120 calories chocolate covered ice cream bars. You are doing all the right stuff and it will catch up eventually! Don't give up. My favorite song lyric for inspiration is " you can do it put you *kitten* into it."0

1 lb in a week is NOT stuck! That's solid progress right there.
Second, you're sick. Weight does weird stuff when you're sick. Drink your fluids. Have a hot chocolate. Or yeah, the chocolate cake. Why not? One piece of cake will not end the world.
Pat yourself on the back. You're doing great.0 -
You have been ill. You need to get o grips with the idea that weight loss is not linear meaning even if you do everything perfect your body for whatever reason will make up ots own mind. You are looking for a trend downwards over time. If you are going to get frustrated at only losing 1lb (which is progress) then what are you going to feel when you hit a proper stall? You need to be realisic and patient. Keep doing the right things and chill out, stressing yourslf out becayse you are being unrealistic, impatient and thinking yourself into a corner isnt going to be your best friend.0

I've just started out on this journey too - and like everyone says it's the journey that is important. It's the downward trend that matters: Go look at your progress graph for some additional encouragement! Plateaus and small gains are part of the process, my friend. They suck, make no bones about it, they really do. And it's just something to accept. All kinds of things affect them - sickness being one of them. If you're female and still menstruating that affects it too.keeponlaughing wrote: »I give into my chocolate craving every night:) 120 calories chocolate covered ice cream bars. And this is important - if your chocolate craving fits into your calorie goal, go for it. Complete deprivation can be very detrimental. It's okay to have some sweet stuff, it really is.
~hugs~ Keep on going, you can do it!

Are you kidding me?? You LOST weight in a week and you want to sabotage that?
But I agree with @futuremanda ... if you choose to eat a slice of cake then do so and enjoy the hell out of it. I portion control my food but that is another choice for you.0 -
You lost weight this week. You didn't gain, you didn't stay the same, you made progress, despite being sick. That is a good thing.
Maybe you rested more during the sickness? Understandable0 -
Unless chocolate cake is a trigger food, have a small piece. If it is a trigger then give it a skip and try a hot chocolate.
I can't have cookies in the house because "oh they are small" and therefore I just snag one every time i go into the kitchen and then I find myself subconsciously making an excuse to go to the kitchen. My mom's weakness are those Hersheys toffee/milk chocolate nuggets.
So to compromise, I got myself some Ben and Jerry's Hazed and Confused and Chocolate Therapy. Half a serving is enough to quell my sweet tooth and the brownie bits give me the "chew" feeling I am looking for. It is also 17 degrees outside so that helps with the smaller portion...0 -
Thank you all so much. I really appreciate the feedback and the encouragement. Most of you pointed out that losing 1lb is progress and I think I lost sight of that, because I am used to losing 2-3 a week. I am going to change up what I eat this week and see if I can "wake up" my body. I really really appreciate the support. It can be so frustrating to feel like you're making all of the right decisions and not see a ton of movement, but I know I just need to hang in there.0

One thing that continues to help me is to remember that its not just a week long or month long thing we are changing-this is lifelong! I would get so wrapped up in the daily or weekly view that I too got frustrated when I didn't see changes in that time period. When I would look at the overall, including the past as someone else mentioned too, I would feel much more encouraged to keep going!
I think that it is wonderful that you reached out in a time of need and that so many people are encouraging because they are all right! You ARE doing it and you will get there!!0
