Very simple black bean burgers
I recently stumbled across this recipe for black bean burgers and found it so delicious (and easy!) I thought I'd share it.
Ingredients:
15 ounces black beans, drained and rinsed
2 tbsp ketchup
1 tbsp yellow mustard
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1/3 cup instant oats
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400F. Grease a cookie sheet or line a parchment paper and set aside. In a mixing bowl, mash black beans with a fork until mostly pureed but still some half beans and bean parts are left. Stir in condiments and spices until well combined. Then mix in oats. Divide into 4 equal portions and shape into thin patties. Bake for 7 minutes, carefully flip over and bake for another 7 mins, or until crusty on the outside.
And that's pretty much it! The great thing about this recipe is how versatile it is. I didn't have instant oats when I made them so I just threw some old fashioned roll oats into a food processor and it blended them up quite nicely. I also didn't have the spices it requested so I used cumin and some strange spice my roommate put together a few weeks ago. And I didn't have ketchup so I replaced it with barbecue sauce. I also somehow managed to completely forego reading the recipe itself and just threw everything in a bowl at the same time. And they still came out just fine!
I hope someone else find this recipe as enjoyable as I did.
(Disclaimer: This is not my recipe. I found it on http://happyherbivore.com/2011/08/easy-black-bean-burger/ and thought perhaps someone else might like to try this recipe.)

It's a healthy alternative for those not wishing to eat meat. Although it may not have meat in it, it is still delicious and can be treated the same as a burger such as putting the patty on a bun and eating the desired condiments (ketchup, mustard, mayo, tomato, lettuce, etc) with it.
