Learning a few things

1) The scale does not reflect how I'm feeling.
2) Some things I eat because I want to taste them, not to get full, so I don't need to eat the WHOLE 400 calorie bag.
3) I can still eat out once in a while and stay with in my calories. I am going online to the restaurants nutrition page and picking my meal before I go.
4) I feel better when I drink all my water
5) I eat slower and enjoy the flavor more.

It is the support on this site that is the secret to my dedication. It's been 5 weeks. I have only lost a pound. Normally, I would have quit by now. This time, I'm hanging on!! Now, if I would develop a love for working out.....that is the struggle for me.

It's awesome that you are still here and not giving up. Working out somehow becomes an aquired love...LOL! I would suggest you going for small walks during your lunch hour and such. Taking the stairs. All the little simple things that make a difference. You can do it.

Great 5. It's those things that keep me on track.

For exercise, I suggest not working out too hard. Ease into it so it just becomes challenging. Then compete with yourself to go a little further, longer, stronger...whatever it is. This tactic is what keeps me motivated. Then when you see how far you've come, it's hard to stop for too long because you don't want to spend your time building back up. Also, I rarely do "sweat" exercises. I prefer yoga, pilates and walking. I will add in one day a week of "sweat" exercise for variety because it's good for my heart to work a little harder sometimes.

I really liked your post...you're learning to make healthy choices. The weight loss will start to happen, even if it's slowly at first.

As far as exercise: I have always liked to work out, but when I started exercising regularly in February I had been sedentary for a really long time. So I knew that in order to not injure myself I had to start slow...try starting with a walk around the block, or a nearby park. Find friends to walk and talk with, that always makes it more interesting. I also like the other poster's suggestion of "non sweat" exercises like yoga...although when I do yoga, I sweat alot...lol...

Congratulations on your success so far! Mental changes are so important. I didn't weigh my self for the first 5 weeks. I wanted to get into a routine and know how little the scale moves when you first make changes. I started writing down my food journal and switch up certain foods, the pounds started coming off. ( 12 in the last 5 weeks!! ) Amazing how seeing your food in print makes a difference. I log it in first to make sure I'm making good choices. Good luck !!

I don't have gym membership but I time my walking while shopping and record it as exercise, as well as gardening, mowing the lawn, washing the car,and housework. I have an exercise bike in my living room, I can read and watch TV while peddling, even if its only for a few minutes, I choose to use the upstairs bathroom,as using the stairs is good exercise. The more water I drink, the more exercise I get :-) Hope this helps.

    love your post,
*feels great even if you get 20 minutes of exercise in, instead of the regular 40-60mins.*
*yes, feels good when you drink all your water :)

Something that has encouraged me to work out is joining a gym with group fitness classes. They are kind of intimidating at first but when I walk in I find the trainer and just say "I have never done this class before can you tell me what I should know?"

I agree with all of your points! #2 is part of the reason I reached my highest weight to begin with. Eating for taste has been the hardest habit for me to break. I'm not sure that I've broken it completely, but I've made myself accountable now. I make sure to exercise enough to balance out my calories. If I go over my limit, I do some extra exercise.
I'm glad that you've made the decision to change your life for good, and stayed here for the long haul no matter what the scale says.
