As the title clearly states, I have gained a ton of weight recently. I have always struggled with my weight, but I started crying after being weighed today. Instead of just sobbing, though, I want to do something about it. Obviously, I need to cut caloric intake and exercise more. What I need help with is coming up with a detailed, intense, yet realistic plan to get my down to 140 at highest. So let's say about 30 pounds.

Does anyone have experience losing 20-30 pounds in three months (especially if you are a female starting from a weight close to mine)? How did you do this? As in, what exercise routine/DVD(s) did you follow? How many calories/what kind of food did you eat? Is it okay to go cold turkey on things like candy? Can doing something this simple truly reduce your cravings?

I realize this post is laughable, but I just want to be blunt and get direct answers.

All that's required for weight loss is a caloric deficit. Don't put timelines on it, as it should be a lifestyle change.

To add to that, you'll need to find some motivation besides being disgusted in yourself. I find that a lot of people have that as their motivation and then once they lose a little they go back to their old habits. You need a good picture in your head of what you really want to achieve, and then go get it, trust me, it will make things a hell of a lot easier.

Hi,, my weight loss journey began after the Christmas hols,,,, Jan 5th I weighed 11 stone 4 pounds..... This morning I was 9 stone 11 pounds ... 21 pound loss in just over 3 months! I'm female and 5' 7'. Basically I downloaded MFP and religiously stuck to 1200 calories, never over and to begin with regularly under ( usually by exercising ) I always have porridge for breakfast, with alpro soya milk, then veg soup for lunch with low cal jelly, fruit and low cal yogurt. Dinner is salad and chicken/tuna/ or home made curry with veg. I tend to snack in the evenings, but on fruit etc. weight watcher cookies are a treat ( I'm in the uk) and I get through a lot of Cadbury highligh drinks .. Around 40 cals each. I'm hoping to lose another 4 pounds then maintain,, hope this helps. Good luck x

Hiya, I went from 10st11 pounds after a few months of dieting (can't say how many as I only diet in winter but excluding Christmas period - I am weird but never gained a pound in between!) Down to 8st7. My regime is 1200 cals Sunday-Thursday and eat/drink whatever I like on Fridays and Saturdays, I believe you need cheat days to stay sane! I horse ride minimum twice a week which is my exercise and try and walk 20 mins a day. Just read labels and switch meals to a healthier option, example instead of fish and chips have a cod Florentine and new pots (even tastier too!). Change to sugar free and healthy living alternatives, especially on condiments like mayo! And weigh and measure everything, never guess or use 1 serving. It's hard at first but gets so much easier and you then just learn the healthier life! Good luck x

    Start filling in MFP settings
Weigh ALL your solid food and measure your liquids. Log it here on MFP Preplan your meals be consistent and determent.

Eat less calories than you burn and walla you will lose weight. How fast or any timelines is hard to predict.

I started at the same weight. I weighed 168.8 on Aug. 7th, 161.8 (Sept. 7) 156.8 (Oct. 7) 150.0 (Nov. 7) 144.6 (Dec. 7) and so on... am now 133, lower than I ever imagined I could be, with a final goal of 129, hoping that gets rid of the stubborn muffin top. Yes, it's doable, with time, commitment, hard work, and a calorie deficit! My best investment? My $10 food scale!

    You don't need a.plan (detailed, intense or <whatever> )

You just need to eat less.

    Eat less.

Don't make it out to be more than what it is, right?

Just eat less and don't get hung up on the details of any specific plan.

    Because "analysis paralysis", right?

    Just do it.

I gained a lot of weight during Christmas season then I decided to spend the first two weeks of the New Year to clean it all out by drinking water and not eating ANY sugar. I lost 5 pounds instantly and was careful about what I ate for another month. When I got to 160 pounds I joined MFP. I've lost 8.8 pounds since February 6th just by counting calories. I eat healthy but I still enjoy some of my favorite foods (carbs). I walk too.

Before I got pregnant I weighed 191 pounds. I hated myself and joined a gym and began to eat healthy. In 10 months I lost about 44 pounds. That was a few years ago. Now I have 3 kids and want to be 130 pounds. I'm 5'6 and 151 pounds right now.

I don't give myself time frames any more. I was in a "20 lbs. by Easter" challenge on here. I'm probably going to make it to 10 lbs. I'm actually good with that and am taking a different attitude now: when I do get to goal, will it matter that it took X weeks or months longer than I'd initially wanted? Because at that time, I'll be there...you know?

Rather than giving yourself an exact time frame and being disappointed when you don't reach "goal" during that time, I'm of the opinion that you should go slowly and steadily and be HAPPY when you see how much you lost in a certain amount of time. Say, for example, you lose four pounds in a month. Well...you're four pounds lighter! A month ago, wouldn't you have given anything to be four pounds lighter? Well, now you are!

As for gaining eight pounds in a month, oh, I could pack on eight pounds in three weeks easily. ;)

Stick with something you can live with and live your life in the meantime, and celebrate the losses, large and small. :) Again, just my view.

I started at 167 and I've lost 20 lbs in 9 weeks by running on the treadmill 45 minutes 4 or 5 times per week, eating whatever I wanted just kept at around 1250 per day, and eat back half of my exercise calories.

I'm in almost the exact same boat! I shot up from 145 (already my highest weight) to 167 after I was laid off and just starting doing school full time, which meant a lot less standing and a lot more sitting.

I've been eating 1200 calories a day, which is what MFP says for 1 1/2 pounds a week. It hasn't been to hard, I mostly just had to cut out my bored snacking and high calories snacks like Starbucks and doughnuts (my two weaknesses).

I've also started the Couch to 5K running app 3 days a week, and going to the kickboxing gym 2-3 days a week. Working out makes me hungry, and I generally eat about 2/3 of my calories back or else I'm starving.

Overall after 11 days I've lost 4 pounds, so not bad.

Good luck, we can do this!
