can a weight loss plateau be caused by not changing up the foods you eat? Much like how you can reach a plateau by doing the same exercise....

Strictly speaking, yes. But the way I think you mean the question, no.

If you eat a diet that comes out to X calories a day, every day, and lose weight to the point where your TDEE decreases to a level equal to or below X, you will plateau or gain weight.

If you mean are you going to plateau because you eat the same menu every day, even if you adjust the calories ingested to be less than your TDEE, then no, you will not plateau.

You mean by eating specific foods? NO. By having lost enough weight that your caloric needs have been reduced and you still eating the same amount of calories? Yes.

    I agree with the others.

On the other hand, sometimes they just happen for no other reason than the fact that the human body is weird. If you are on one, just make sure you are weighing, measuring, and logging correctly and the weight will start to come off again.

Eating the same menu day after day CAN cause some deficiencies in micro and trace nutrients, but that is very uncommon.

I think we all forget this pretty regularly (the bolded part). Complex organism; complex variables, etc.

As for OP - in my experience a plateau of more than 3 weeks or so means I need to tighten up my habits. Longer if my intended deficit is really small. Eating the same foods regularly shouldn't have anything to do with stalling out (is "plateauing" a word?)

I also attribute the plateau to starting at the gym in the last month.....new muscle and water retention
