Calorie reset, is this normal?

When I entered my most recent weight this morning MFP reset my calories because I'm down more than 10 pounds. Yay! However, it dropped the calories by 60, down to 1420. I still have at least 70 pounds left, 90 if everything goes well. If it takes away 60 calories for every 10 pounds of weight loss, that would put me at 1000 or less by the time I get to my goal. Surely that can't be a good idea. Has anyone else run into this issue and what did you do?

As you approach your goal, it's typically recommended to start slowing the speed of loss. You can get away with 2 lbs a week when you have a lot to lose. But eventually, not so much. So you drop your goal to 1.5, 1, 0.5. Either way, MFP will bottom you out at 1200, and you'll get the rate of loss with that that you get.

Congratulations on shedding your first bit of weight!

Yes, MFP adjusts your calories every ten pounds.

If you feel 1420 is too low for you, you can probably adjust it so your calorie deficit is smaller. I suspect you set your goals to lose 2 pounds a week. You might want to set it to lose 1.5 pounds a week.

I currently have it set at 1.5 lbs. per week and that has been pretty accurate. It's been 7 weeks to lose 11 lbs. I had expected to slow my loss down eventually, but I had hoped it would only have to be for the last 20 lbs. or so. I already know that I have a long road ahead, the thought of making it longer is a little depressing.

Don't be depressed. Remember, MFP uses the NEAT method. Move a bit more, and you can eat a bit more.

I have the same issue, having just hit 10 pounds of weight loss, but am confused - my calorie goal went from 1400 to 1340. That's speeding up weight loss, not slowing it, isn't it?? I think my rate of loss is set at 1 pound a week, and that's been pretty accurate (10 pounds in 2 months). I've been happy with my progress and don't want to change anything, unless there is something I don't know (which there clearly is ;) Thanks for any more hints.
