Enough is enough!

I am a 24 year old male and I'm 6' 1" 350lbs. I am obese. My lifestyle is sedentary and I am also currently unemployed (which will soon change). I would like to lose 100 pounds ASAP and eventually become a healthier more active person. I am fairly athletic as I have played sports most of my younger years. The past 3 years I have led an extremely unhealthy lifestyle which included fast food daily (sometimes twice daily), sweets, saltys, and everything in between and of great amounts. I have also struggled with daily habitual marijuana use during that 3 year span which did not help with the binge eating. But I have recently stopped the use.

As far as exercise goes, I will be starting slow and working my way to High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) accompanied with weight lifting. I also have been diagnosed with low testosterone and have been prescribed one weekly injection of 2cc's of testosterone cypionate and have been doing the injections for almost 3 years. (Yes I know, unusual for my age).

Now that my specifics are out there, I would like to hear back from some people on some suggestions or changes I should make. And I'll be glad to answer any questions if I left something out.

But first, 3 questions.

How many calories should I be eating daily to lose weight in a healthy yet fast paced manor? Which food groups should I prioritize in order to plan my meals effectively? Is there any supplements out there you recommend for my case?

Thanks, and I hope to hear back.

I`d say get yourself a fitbit or pedometer and try to walk 10000 steps a day - its a great motivator to get you moving enough. As far as foods go, let MFP work out the calories and try to stay under your deficit. I don`t go by food elimination at all and have been losing fairly consistently since I started. Others here will be able to help you with the eating side more. Drink lots of water!

Hey, Mike, congratulations on taking a stand for yourself and getting started building a better life! I'm new here, as well. When you set up your profile it will ask you your weight and weight loss goals and will calculate your daily caloric goals for you, accounting for any exercise you do and log in to the site. If you Google it, you'll find the advice for healthy weight loss for men and women both is 1-2 pounds a week. Be well!

you probably will lose weight at a fast pace at first because you're obese, but you dont want to lose it too fast too soon otherwise.I dont cut certain things out of my diet either although I havent had bread in weeks but thats because I really dont want it.as for the testosterone you should start losing the weight once you start becoming active.

I have a friend who has a disorder where his body doesnt produce testosterone and he has to take testosterone shots also.He has lost quite a bit of weight just being more active and eating better.

You didnt put the weight on overnight so its not going to come off as fast as you may want. But dont get discouraged if that happens just work towards small goals and you will eventually get there.

Visit IIFYM.com and use the TDEE Calculator there to determine the right caloric goal for you. Given the stats you provided, it appears you need to eat between 2850-3440 to lose weight. (Closer to 2850 obviously means faster loss, but stay above that.)

(People will likely freak out here about those numbers, as the mob tends to recommend dangerously low calorie targets on these boards, so do the reading and math there yourself instead of just accepting calorie target advice here.)

On that same page, be sure to read the part about how much protein and fat to eat daily. For a young guy like you, especially with testosterone issues, those are critical. Protein + weight lifting + your testosterone therapy ought to be delivering some muscle growth.

I'd say no to supplements so long as you eat healthy. MFP will suggest caloric intake based on your numbers so go with that. As you know, the deficit of intake versus burn is the bottom line. Sounds like you are making great decisions. Good luck!
