I stay at my calorie allowance Monday to Friday but Saturday and Sunday I go to my maintenace figure and eat my chocolate. I set my menus for those two days and what is left up to my maintenance figure, is chocolate. I have lost 44lbs so far. You do have to be strict during the week though and eat only what you are allowed. If I have a day where I know I will go over my allowance I just go to maintenance for that day. I am never tempted to go over with this system. I call it my reverse 5:2 diet

Hi, how do you know what your maintenance figure is? This sounds like a great way of doing things, thank you ☺️
  • Think I may have just replied in wrong place! Just wondered how you know what your maintenance figure is?

Your maintenance figure is your TDEE. Your BMR is the figure your body needs just to live if you sleep all day. If you eat lower than your TDEE you will lose weight regardless of what you eat. To find your BMR and your TDEE go to the scooby website. Just Google Scooby workshops. It will ask you a few simple questions and then give you the figures you need. If you have any problems just give me a shout.

I have been on this site now for almost three years. I do a variety of exercises, most of them free on youtube. I like the Leslie Sansone walk at home videos and also kettlebell w/o's. I also do a few dumbell exercises. I can't really remember how long it took me to lose 40lbs but I think it took me less than 6 months. It seemed really quick because I enjoyed using this site. I have friends on here that I 'speak' to every day so the time has gone really quickly.
  • Hi 2essie. That's a great weight loss, congrats! This sounds like a great way to lose. How long did it take you to lose that weight?

I can't really remember but I think under 6 months. Could have been 8 months. Not long though. More to the point, I have kept it off for 2 years which I am happy about
  • That's amazing :-) I've just been on the scooby site and figured out TDEE and am going to start from today. Thank you
  • I don't have much support from friends/family so I'm hoping this tool will help me.

I would rethink what you are doing and get to know how to use MFP properly and diet efficiently. Things like log and weigh all your food, get the basic math correct as well as learning how to be patient consistent and focused. These underlying aspects will help you get to your target and make it easier.

Motivation I think comes from you you (maybe write down the reasons why you wnat to and benefits) all i cna say is its perfectly possible an straightforward to lose the weight. Get friends if you need support.

In answer to your chocolate question then its importnat for most people not to prohibit food. I have chocolate every day. The strategy is to eat it in moderation and within your calorie allowance. tricks like eating darker chcolate, putting it in the firdge, various brands or having a protein mix etc. I suggest you eat a small amount at the end of the day or when your craving is greatest.

I just noticed this aim to lose 20lb a month. Recommended weight loss is 1-2lb a week. Dont go setting yourself unrealistic targets or you will get frustrated.

Btw its very very unlikely you burn 700 calories in 35-40 minutes.

That's a great initial loss but it will be mainly water weight in the first couple of weeks with a small amount of fat so don't worry when it slows down to an appropriate 1lb a week

Be extremely careful of calorie burns and how much you eat back. You do not burn 700 calories in 45 minutes on a low resistance, unless you are morbidly obese and even then it's doubtful ...machines and MFP can seriously overestimate ...eat back half to 3/4 and judge against your weight loss over time (6-8 weeks) then you can eat less or more.

If it helps I monitor elliptical via HRM which is closer estimate for steady state cardio (but not exact) ...I'm 163lbs and it takes me 12 mins at level 17 with a heart rate in the region of 155-160 to burn 100 calories

PS I lost 50lbs in about 9 months..if I can do it, you can do it
