Total poundage per workout

Options
hypothetical... if you are lifting X amount of weight for X amount of reps and for the next workout you increase the weight, but your reps decrease and you wind up with a total volume of weight that is less than the last workout are you progressing?
ie: Workout 1: 150/8 X 5 sets = 6000 lbs.
Workout 2: 160/6 X 5 sets = 4800 lbs.
am I overthinking this?

Workout 1: Volume (normally moderate to moderately heavy)
    Workout 2: Intensity (heavy)

Your workout 2 isn't quite 'intensity', but it's more intense than workout 1.

Both volume and intensity are needed to achieve strength. Don't overthink it. :)

Thanks Fuji... I was feeling good about increasing the weights until I decided to do some math, LOL
So I'll stick to the new weight until I reach 8 reps on each set and then increase it again.
