Hi everyone! New to this forum. I'm 2 weeks in, been logging faithfully, staying at my calories and exercising 3-4 times a week (cardio and strength) and am GAINING weight! My goal is to lose one pound a week so I know it will take time but I wasn't expecting to gain. i will add that I am 50 years old. Anyone else experienced this?

I'm going to take a guess that you started a strenuous exercise routine the same time you started counting calories and the water retention caused by the new exercises are masking the couple pound weight loss you've probably achieved. Stick with it a few weeks and you will see a loss.
If you get really frustrated because you aren't seeing a loss, just work on the diet aspect for a while with much less strenuous exercise, making sure you are very accurate on your food logging.

Thanks sodacat- you were right about my starting to exercise at the same time as starting to watch calories. I did some reading online about water retention. I will stick with it. Thanks for the encouragement!0

Sodakat is right.
Microscopic tearing of the muscles(being sore) after working out will cause the tissues to inflame and hold onto water as a way of the body trying to protect the tissue. It can last up to 3-4 weeks and then you will start to notice a difference on the scale.
But do not let the number on the scale define your success. I always suggest getting measured or taking progress pictures so you can visualize the weight loss.0 -
Thanks hunniebunn. I am planning to take measurements tomorrow and track that as well.0
