MFP weight loss # does not reflect actual weight lost

I started using MFP a couple of years ago and have gone through intermittent "undisciplined" stages along the way. I began using it seriously again about 43 days ago. Here's my issue: Before I came back to MFP, I had gained about 9.5 lbs since the last time I logged in. MFP only started counting my pounds lost after I got down to my previous number, so the first 9.5 lbs I lost aren't being accounted for in my total. It shows me as losing 20 lbs instead of 29.5. Is there a way to fix this so my true weight loss total is being recorded? Thanks!
I tried posting this in technical discussion, but it wouldn't let me!

have to use the website version and amend your very first weight entry as that's where it counts from
MY HOME>CHECK-IN>EDIT PREVIOUS ENTRIES
set it to your starting weight (this time round) and it should be fine0 -
Thank you, ellivort! I mostly use the app so I didn't see the extra settings under check in. Your suggestion fixed the problem! Lil, do what ellivort says . It's super easy0
