I found this app as I noticed my weight loss not going the way I wanted after two years Paleo and a few months trying crossfit.
I never counted calories but I've been logging religiously and I'm hooked! I believe in quality not calories per se. I don't really know how to use the community aspect but I'm interested. Also, I can't log crossfit or other weight training classes so I'm not knowing the calories burned there. Help?

Well.. As long as you accurately (read: accurately!) log your calories in, and do not go over your personal goal (or your BMR if you want to be extra sure- it is usually higher though), it doesn't matter how many calories you burn in exercise. Exercise is a gift to yourself to improve your overall health, mental fortitude, build endurance, and fine tune that sexy appearance.
    - For this site, I would find something relatively close to your general activities in cross-fit, just as a guideline to include in your daily journal. You can always write your OWN notes on the page/cross reference using info from a calorie calculator website.

I know exercise does burn up quite a few calories, but diet is always the most important thing. "You can't out train a bad diet." A person can exorcise and gain fat mass anyway, but it is impossible to gain fat mass if you eat fewer calories than you burn. (And don't have some .0001% rare condition. ;) )

Also, welcome to the community! We're happy to have you here. There are many posts with people "Looking for friends!" so just create one of those, or add some people from those ads. Message people you add, and you can see their progress updates and keep in touch. The community forums is also a good place for group discussions on topics that interest you. How about cross-fit? You can't be the only one that likes it!

I tried MFP once before but did not bother with the social part and it ended up not working for me at all. This time around I am so glad I decided to share my journey with others and to participate in theirs. It is helpful motivation, sometimes funny, and I have learned so much more about nutrition and all the mistakes I made in the past. Weight training does not burn many calories and most people think it best not to count them. It is very important for not losing muscle, which helps you burn fat, so do as much as you can. Diet is most important (80%) at first, but finding an exercise or sport that you truly enjoy and want to do for the rest of your life is, in my opinion, most important for long-term success.

I am like you Robertus, I never got involved with the social aspect of this site, but as my friends are so spread out in 'real' life, it's nice to have some folks on here that are working on their health and weight! In my opinion, I think the combination of working out and being active, including weight training...and good nutrition not only will help us to feel better, become healthier...a really nice 'side effect' is looking fantastic!

I agree with everyone before me. I spent a year on MFP spinning my wheels. When I decided to give the social aspect a try, my success was greatly improved. There is a lot of negativity on the Community posts. But if you do a lot of friend requests and you are an active, encouraging friend, the love and support you receive on your wall and in your inbox is amazing.
