I am on W3D3 of the Couch to 5K program and the last day I ran was Thursday. Yesterday after work (a desk job) I came home and noticed that my right ankle was swollen to twice the regular size. I have no pain anywhere in my leg or ankle, just the swelling. This morning my ankle is still a little swollen. Today is the day that I should be doing W3D3 and I am wondering if I should. Has anybody else had this happen and should I run today????

I wouldn't run on anything that's twice it's normal size! :noway:0

my knee gave me a warning two days before my third soccer match of the week, i didnt listen - first minute on the pitch, I tore my ACL, MCL and now schedualed for two operations - ask a doctor - but your body is telling you something0

i agree! i think u should hold off. but its up to u. if theres no pain, and u feel like running, then go for it. im one of the stubborn people that work out even when injured. it usually puts me down for the count for a few days. so IMO, i would rest!0

Noooo! Even it's not hurting it's trying to tell you something! RICE (rest, ice, compression, elevation) and ibuprofen for a couple of days then see how it feels.0

Don't run.0

If there's no pain or soreness, I say run, but take it easy. If there is any twinge of pain at all, stop.
I rolled my ankle 4 days before the St. Louis marathon last year. By the time race day came around, it was still swollen, but no more pain. I carried my cell phone with me just in case I had to bail on the race and had to call my boyfriend and/or friends who were running the half to come get me. I finished the race just fine, though I was extremely careful while running.
Good luck, and run happy!0 -
I would hold off just to be safe.0

Ankles don't swell for no reason. I would take a couple days off, rest & ice it, and if it doesn't go down, see the doctor. Don't run on it while it's swollen.0

I wouldnt. I've had a badly sprained ankle before and it was the worst EVER! No point doing more damage to it cos you might not be able to run again...sounds extreme but your ankle is screaming for a rest right now!0

Stay off the ankle, And it might hurt to have it checked out just to be safe!!!0

NO, you may have tweeked it, let it heal, then ease yourself back into the running.0

I wouldn't. I somehow hurt the bottom of my foot while running. I was limping for a while (didn't go to the doctor) and even after I could put pressure on it, it still hurt. I took a week off from running to heal and I hated it (not running). I know you said there is no pain, only swelling, but get it checked out. It could be a warning sign that something is about to give. If you are on the verge of hurting something and then you do, you will be out of commish. way longer than a week of rest or whatever you need to get better. If you have the drive and determination to do this, you can pick it back up once you are up to it.0

def not, elevate and ice pack it0

i think you should stay off the ankle. if you feel up to exercising. you can do chair exercises. just pop in an exercise video and do the arm movements and the leg movements as best you can sitting down. if you don't have a video take you can go to youtube and type in chair exercises there is a bunch there to choose from. if it doesn't go down soon you really should go to the doctor as others have said.0
