Weird question. Has anyone experienced depression since their journey began? I am 5 days in (tracked, 2 weeks actually,) and I have this thrilling zing! feeling about the healthy changes, but a crippling sadness or depression .... It's hard to explain. Am I just weird?

Maybe ... I had some thing similar at 1st because I was worried this counting calories thing might not work and be wasting my time " but to does work "0 -
How hard are you cutting back on your food compared to before? Your brain needs nutrients and if you suddenly starve yourself, it can upset the balance. Try eating fruit. It gives you a natural sugar boost that might help your mood a bit. If your low mood continues, see your doctor.0

I imagine you could have these feelings if the path to fitness seems long, or if you are not clear on the exact reasons why you want to reach your goals. Two weeks does sound fast to feel that way... I would suggest finding MFP friends who share your common fitness goals so that you can help support each other.. the friends I've made here have been critical to my feelings of positivity even when the doldrums come (and they will-- that's life).
And to second cesarioviola; do check your MFP suggested calorie intake to make sure you are getting the nutrients you need to fuel your brain and body!0 -
It could be that the body / brain is going through a change / making adaptions.
If it lasts longer than six weeks, see a professional.0 -

i have had periods of frustration when the scales wouldnt budge but other than that no sad feelings. I just kept on chipping away.
I guess for me I didnt cut anything out, just trying my best to eat in moderation. Good luck Op you really can do it, keep it simple.

maybe instead of focusing on the deprivation (cutting calories, tracking every little thing, etc), you can focus on what you are giving yourself-- ie focus on exercising. I always find that exercise affects my state of mind positively.
Also! i would suggest adding to your support system/friend-requesting a lot of people on here. Thats always helped me!0 -
Did you make a huge and sudden change in your eating habits?
It could be some pretty severe sugar withdrawal, and if so the best thing to do is stay motivated and push through it!0 -
I have the same feeling and I am on about day 12. I had this crazy high the first week, but slowly this week I have noticed I am down in the dumps. I'm sure our bodies are just trying to adjust to our new normal. I actually find that I feel 10x better mentally after working out!0

Are you eating enough? Because I know that feeling. And if there is nothing to explain it (nothing externally getting me down, no other reason for my depression), I know it is because I'm not eating enough. I may not feel hungry at that particular moment, but that is usually because I've got past the 'hunger' stage then. Then the depression stage kicks in. Just a thought!0
