Hi

When is says 8 CUPs of water, does it mean actual American cup measurements or 8 glasses of water? don't want to drink too much, as I know it can be bad for you

I've been drinking 96 ounces of water a day, or more.
People have said on here to half your weight and drink that in ounces.
    I think the 1 glass is 8 ounces... 8 is 64
  • It means 8 ounces, which is a cup. The diet I'm on says to drink at least a half gallon a day, up to a gallon. So, drink up!

Yes, 1 cup = 8oz. But I say drink when you're thirsty. I CONSTANTLY go over the recommended 64 oz per day. This is especially true on my workout days. If you're still thirsty, keep drinking.

You would have to be drinking EXCESSIVE amounts of water to be bad for you. Like 2 gallons within 30 minutes. Your body is over 50% water and needs a significant amount to stay hydrated. It means 8-8 oz glasses...but if you drink a gallon of water a day you will do no harm to yourself.

Assuming you have healthy kidneys, you'd have to drink about 45 liters of water a day before it would be bad for you. So do not worry about drinking too much water. More is better. Most people here drink way over the 8 cups as part of their diet.

For it to be an issue you'd have to be drinking well over a liter an hour (probably at least 2 liters or drinking a a liter per hour for several hours). The issue isn't the amount of water itself, but that your body will get rid of electrolytes with the water just from normal processes. Your body needs a balance of water and electrolytes to be able to properly function. So if you are sweating tons for like more than an hour and only drinking water, you probably would want to add something in with electrolytes or grab some food or something.

I tink it means 8- 8oz glasses of water...
I drink a gallon of water a day (128oz) and my Doctor said it's fine for me to drink this much. I'm always so thirsty and I'd rather have water than anything else..

Keep in mind the 8 cups of water measure is just a number. It doesn't really mean anything. Your body is a much better guide. It will tell you when to drink and how much to drink. Trust me your body was engineered over millions of years of evolution and has an excellent water regulation system that will make you want to drink when you need to. It would be very hard to drink to much. Some days you will drink more than 8 cups and others less. There is no real magic number.

For me it seems like the more I drink water, the more I want! I'm working in a hot lab, so I'm sweating it out, so I drink all day! Love my insulated glass from Meijers, I can keep it ice cold for hours, I just keep topping it off! On really sweaty days I will add a Propel packet or have a Gatorade.

Dr Oz says to drink 1 ounce of water for every pound... sounds like a lot - but so long as your kidneys are working well. Many trips to the bathroom!

Thanks guys. I am not a drinker of water, some days I go a whole day with only one or two cups of tea, so it is really hard for me to up my intake! I always have headaches, and dry skin and i wonder why!

Right. To the Tap I go! x

Its hard to have too much water. Your body will want to release what it doesn't need. I drink close to a gallon a day and feel great!

Sounds nasty, and does not count as water in my opinion.

If that counts as water then my caffeine free diet coke does too!
