I've been taking a route and wasn't sure of the mileage. Yesterday I happened to run into a guy who had an app to check your mileage. I thought how cool is that. So I got home and looked for it. Not sure if I got the right one but I loaded this one. So far, okay!
Just used it today.
Oh one other cool thing is that it gives you elevations.

RunKeeper is what I use to track mine.

I know there's an iPhone and android version. Lets you put in what activity/fitness machines you're using. The gps is fairly accurate and the website is pretty neat. Give you all kinds of graphs to compare what you've done0 -

I used this too, works well just a bit slow on my old Iphone 3g. Just switched to a Samsung Focus Windows Mobile 7. Anyone knows anyapp for that? Thanks.0
