Okay here it is!
I'm wanting to know if anybody else with Celiac is struggling too? It seems that I honestly don't know what my TRUE WEIGHT IS!! Because it fluctuates daily literally by 4-7 lbs. I think the worst is the distention that I can't seem to get rid of. Even have my Dr. baffled, I do exercise 3 times per week but, nothing is helping.

Calorie defecit to lose body weight
Celiac is tough (I'm not Celiac though) and it will be difficult to control your water fluctuations
The problem is alongside your elimination diet you also need to eat fewer calories than you burn to lose body fat
Take an average of your weight over the week and use that perhaps?
Use a site like trendweight.com or an app like Libra or Happy Scale to map trends0 -
I'd suggest asking your Dr to refer you to a dietician as they would be able to help with more specific advice regarding the limitations of your diet0

Your true weight is whatever it is when you step on the scale. It will be most consistent if you weight first thing in the morning after emptying your bladder. Doctors aren't usually as baffled as you might think. What typically happens is that a patient walks in and says, "I've been eating less and I've been exercising, but I can't lose weight." So, the doctor says, "I don't know how to explain that," which is doctor speak for "You're a lying idiot, but I don't have time to figure out what you're lying about." If you eat at a deficit for long enough, you will lose weight.0

I think it would probably help to have your diary open to the public so that we could take a peek at it to see your logging habits.
Sometimes it's just a matter of too much sodium (I know that causes me to balloon out for a day or so).
Are you weighing yourself first thing in the morning after using the bathroom and before eating? That's when you'll get the most consistent weight. Most people gain a few pounds throughout the day, so if you're weighing multiple times a day, you're going to get widely varying weights.0 -
To lose, you need a caloric deficit. Can you open your diary?0

Do you eat a lot of commercial "gluten free" foods --ie, bread, crackers, cereal, etc? When my daughter (celiac) wanted to lose a few pounds quickly so that her prom dress fit better (talking 6-8 lbs in 4 weeks, just enough so that the zipper would go up smoothly, & the halter back wouldn't have bulging around it) I suggested she cut all the commercial gluten free foods & stick with fruit, meat, veggies. Sometimes, the highly processed carbs can cause water retention & that distension that you are talking about.0

I have celiac disease. Sometimes celiacs are prone to other dietary sensitivities like soy or lactose. Do you have any other issues in addition to the bloating like gas?
If the muffin top is just from fat, a calorie deficit will get rid of the excess weight.0 -

Unless you're diabetic or have other medical issues, you don't need to worry about carbs.
OP! As others said, make sure you're tracking accurately. My sister is diabetic AND celiac, and she has followed a calorie deficit and has been losing well! It can be done!0 -

So I read everyone's suggestions this morning & I greatly appreciate all the support more than you know. So, I meet with a dietician that my Dr.'s office uses. I was lucky she had a cancellation an I was available!! So, with me being Celiac, Diabetic & having lactose issues. She has giving me some suggestions. They are to stay away from yellow corn products & avoid processed as much as possible. Try not to eat out which is no big deal because I rarely do that. So,I told her I just bought beef from local farmer all organic it's in the freezer &it is stocked with chicken, shrimp, mahi mahi, some pork & wild caught salmon.
SO here is her plan:
1500-1600 calories per day 165g carbs
breakfast (15g) lunch (60g) dinner (60g)
11 carbs 4 carbs 4 carbs
4 veg 2+ veg 2+ veg
8 meat/protein 4oz m/p 4oz m/p
4-5 fat 2 fat/hummus 2 fat
SNACK
15-30g carb
CARBS: STARCHES,BREADS,FRUITS,MILK 10-11 choices per day
This is a totally new dietician than I saw when I was first diagnosed with diabetes. She explained things totally different than first person I saw. But, I will open up my diary so that if you want to help me along the way I would more than welcome it!! I've struggled with my weight for along time now. I once weighed 125lbs. those days I haven't seen in 30yrs.

When you get bloated, do you have your clues as to how that's it, v. body fat? For instance, when I bloat, I notice it immediately in my wrists and hands...believe it or not. I KNOW I didn't gain enough weight for my hands to get fat overnight so I realize it's water.
If you have clear signs like that (other than discomfort), weigh on a morning that you don't have them. That's what I'd do - it may not be your solution but I think it probably makes sense.0 -

I am Celiac, and I don't think my CD has anything to do with my belly fat, and my weight doesn't fluctuate much, usually not more than .6 of a pound. If you are truly GF and have been for long enough for your villi to heal, that should not be causing any distension.
I would suggest looking at either your other health issues (diabetes, lactose) or other foods. Maybe you are sensitive to oats (apparently 20% of celiacs can't eat GF oats and I am unlucky enough to be one of them), corn, or something else entirely.0 -

The only thing I can see is the Isagenix. Two points on it: First, it is high in fibre which can cause bloating if you are drinking more than one a day and are not used to much fibre.
Secondly, the whey and milk proteins, I believe you mentioned that you might be lactose intolerant?:If you have a lactose intolerance or sensitivity, the shakes may result in constipation, diarrhea, bloating, abdominal pain and cramping, acid reflux, nausea, vomiting, headaches, dizziness, fatigue and joint and muscle pain. Even if you aren't lactose-intolerant, you may be allergic to the proteins in milk itself
Have you considered going off the Isogenix supplements for a few days and see if your symptoms clear up?0 -

The shakes don't seem to bother me it seems to be other foods. I'm going to cut back to 1 per day anyway. An see if that makes a difference & with my next order I'm going to see if there's just whey that's GF. If, so maybe I can send the canisters I have & swap for whey! If not I will get a new shake protein strictly GF & Whey!

I have celiac disease and my belly puffs up like I'm pregnant if I get "contaminated", and this can stick around for awhile. There may be something you are eating daily that is causing inflammation and/or water retention. I suspect the Isogenix as well, they claim to be gluten free but there is a gazillion ingredients in there, and your may have other undiagnosed sensitivities (Celiacs are prone to them). You sound reluctant to give them up, but I seriously try eliminating the Isagenix supplements altogether (or even plain whey-that bloats up even non-lactose intolerant folks!) for a week and stick to unprocessed, unpackaged foods (so you know EXACTLY what you are eating) for a couple of weeks and see if your symptoms improve.0 -
I'm at about the same calories as you for the day and your allotment of carbs seems very high for a diabetic. I am pre-diabetic with some slight lactose intolerance, no CD. I alot my calories on a daily schedule at about 30% carbs/35% fats/35% protein. If you have problems moving the scale in the right direction, you might want to decrease your carb allotment. Decreasing carbs will also help you to keep some water retention down. My first week of low carb (35% carb at the time) I dropped 4 pounds. After that, I dropped 1.5-2 lbs/week. Insulin resistance wreaks havoc on your weight loss efforts.0

Completely agree. It would be worth going off them for a week and see if there is a change. Also, go off the whey and milk protein powders. Try a lactose free and gf alternative.0 -
I went today an scheduled an appointment for food sensitivities on Monday! I also took myfitnesspal comments along. An well she totally thinks I'm going to find I have other sensitivities going on too! She said once results are in then it's time to smile look at my new big picture!!
I'm grateful for all your help & I did contact Isagenix about switching to strictly gluten free, soy free, dairy free shake that they offer. If not I'll sell it!
But first is I need results from my TEST!

Companies in the US can claim gluten free if they test under 220ppm for gluten. That means the shakes could have gluten but test in a range that can be considered gluten free. Honestly- Id ditch them. As someone allergic to wheat, barley and oat, I have to be really careful about certain "gf" claims. Even if only trace amounts are in the product, my throat swells up. I would never trust a company like isagenix.0

I'm celiac and am always bloated- well I was until I realized I am allergic/sensitive to casein protein (milk protein). I cut it out and the pain and bloating went away0

Today I'm doing a plant head protein powder which is gluten free, non-gmo, dairy free & pomegranate lowfat kefir which is lactose free & kosher! I'm stopping the Isagenix completely you all stuck in my head all night!

Well I'm starting to notice my stomach is feeling less pressure since I quit the Isagenix!
I'm so grateful to positive input from people who care
I've started my food allergy testing on Monday. Absolutely no dairy, curry, chili powders no garlic oregano, black pepper & paprika!
So, I came home sorta my spices marked them with X for hubby! Gave neighbor a bunch of them! But, at least out of the first panel I got results! Today I go for more testing0 -

Ok this looks similar to what my personal trainer put me on with one exception. Try flipping your carbs. Unless you're super active after dinner don't eat so many. Eat your breakfast carbs for dinner and your dinner carbs for breakfasts. Start high and work your way down throughout the day because your body doesn't require as much energy once your day is done. I've done this for a month and I'm down 15 pounds. Good luck and God bless.0
