Hi, I'm already in the healthy bei range but wanna lose a few more kilos. my goal is Set to 1kg loss per week, which I find a bit ambitious - but the cals stay at 1200 even if i change the settings to 0.5kg. MFP has stuffed my cals around before. Any ideas? Thanks!

I would not use MFP's calories that they set them at. For me, I used Scoobysworkshop.com and calorieking.com to calculate my calories I should be eating to lose weight, then averaged those two numbers then went in to MFP and entered in that set number of calories. I went from 1200 to 1650 and am losing. I am 24 yrs old, 5'5", and as of today 147.6 lbs. My goal isn't that far away, but 1200 also isn't sustainable for anyone long term in my opinion. This is a lifestyle change, not a diet. Good Luck in finding an amount that will work for you!

Calorie intake is only half of the equation - what you burn also determines your weight loss. If you looking to lose 2 lbs per week, (just <1Kg) you need to create a 1000 calorie deficit per day, given its about 3500 calories per lb. If you're too active, and restrict to 1200 calories per day, your body will think its starving, and make losing weight much more difficult. There are several calorie burn calculators on the net you can look up - punch in your gender, weight, and activity level and you'll have a baseline idea of what your body burns on its own daily, before even working out. Good luck.

Thank you! I think I might have a look around the internet for different calculators. 1200 is fine as I am really quite sedentary and don't go hungry exactly, but it is a bit joyless to maintain in the long run. As you said, MrsSullivan - it's a lifestyle change. :-)
