Frozen foods

Hi all, So I'm trying to be pro-active and have pre-cooked meat in the freezer for quick meals.
I'd like to buy meat - like chicken breasts - that are already seasoned and flavorful but I don't want a ton of additives and crapola.

Suggestions, my fine-flavored friends?

Jen

Why not buy the meat and flavor it yourself? You can buy it, season it, then freeze it, and voila! Tasty food when you need it, and you know exactly what's in it!

If you dont want to flavor it yourself then your best options are Whole Foods, Sprouts, or Fresh & easy (we have all 3 in phoenix) but itll depend on what is local around you, basically anywhere that specializes in organic foods, honestly though you do pay a pretty penny for getting stuff pre-seasoned and/or pre-cooked, I would take a day to do it yourself every couple of weeks

That's an oxymoron if I have ever heard one!!..."My those are big shrimp" ..."That's pretty ugly"

Sorry, I just have a bit of a sick sense of humor sometimes. I don't know that you can find what you are looking for without all the crapola. That's what makes it taste sooooooo good. Crapola = Salt, MSG, more stuff I cannot pronounce, added water, "natural" flavoring ha ha ha, some kind of stuff that puts carbs in packaged meat??, let's see, did I forget anything? Probably.

Your best bet is to find someone on this site that can share some good recipes and then cook and freeze it yourself. I don't have any really flavorful stuff, but I do cook and freeze rather than buy the crapola.

I really don't know how to season meats. I guess I assume someone else can do it better, cook it, and I'll pay a little more...

Ah hah, I just looked and if you go to the "HOME" section of these Message Boards there is a topic for recipes. I bet you can find someone there that can share. I may have to do that myself.

THIS! Play around with seasonings and marinades you can make yourself. Orange juice is a good marinade. Different spices may blend well together. If you make them yourself you avoid extra salt and preservatives. Not sure, buy a cook book or find a blog you like and follow that.

I would look for a good marinade recipe or find a bottled marinade that has ingredients you like.

We like cooking up ground beef with onions and garlic (and sometimes green pepper) to add to all kinds of dishes-- burritos, tacos, spaghetti, whatever we want. We portion it out into various sizes and mark the date, what it is, and what size it is for easy defrosting later. I just did the same with some turkey sausage I bought. I think it was just Italian Turkey Sausage (in the casing) by Jennie O. I decided that half a link (80 cals) would be a good amount to add to my breakfast scrambles in the morning, so I removed it from the casing, cooked it, and packaged it in the correct portions (10 servings instead of the 5 the package said, since I was cutting the serving size)

What kind of meat do you like to cook with? I'm sure we can come up with something!

Market Pantry Garlic Herb Chicken Breasts are pretty tasty and not too bad in the additive department. They're at Target.

They make a few types, and this one has the least sodium.
