How to recover from a binge day?

Hi there! I've only been on MFP 14 days. So far I've lost 5 pounds by eating 1600 +/- 100 calories and exercising an hour 4 days of the week with smaller things the other days. (As in, a plank and wall sit challenge and a short walk or a bit of time on WiiFit games.) I'm almost 5"9 and 200 pounds. Anyways, today I drove up to my parents for a visit (I'm in college) and my mom had bought me my favorite Mexican food. I've gone over my calories for sure but I'm not sure by how much as it's a local place. Anyways, what's the best way to make up for this? Tomorrow is normally a rest day, should I work out? Should I try and cover how much I think I went over (500+) or just a little bit and spread it out over a few days? Should I try and meet my calorie goal tomorrow (1680) or stay under it, maybe get 1300 the next few days? I'm not sure if it matters which I do but I thought I'd ask as I plan out my weekend. Tia!

Don't worry about it. Just continue with your normal deficit. You might have set yourself back a day, but in the long run, it doesn't matter.
Best of luck!0 -
500 calories isn't too significant in the long run. Just keep hitting you goals and you're good to go!0

That's not a binge. You probably were close to what you would maintain weight at. The scale may go up for a few days, but it is just water weight. Go back to what you were doing and don't try to compensate for it.0

Thanks everyone. I've never been able to lose weight before purely due to snacking and overeating and just refusing to give it up, so I've just been doing pretty good and since I'm still pretty new to this I turned into a worry wort! Lol Thank you for the reassurance.0

Congrats on your 5 lbs loss
If you feel like you overdid it with the food, try to get in some extra water today and during the rest of the week. Not sure if you like tea, but I also like to try and get a green tea in once a day if I've had an off day. I find that (for me) green tea helps with bloating.
And don't beat yourself up! One day "off" won't wreck your progress!0 -
Just move on. The real problem with ONE binge is what it does to your mind. If you don't let yourself go again, you won't even feel the setback.0

You figured out all he answers in your post, just apply some common sense and deal with the excess calories in a way that suits you.0

I went to a dinner party last night and the food was actually pretty healthy with small portions. It was the wine that I went crazy with. It's been three weeks since I had red. I felt pretty crappy this morning and it made me realize how much I don't need wine anymore. I felt so dehydrated. Anyways, I put everything in as best I could and decided to keep going. I was probably eating at maintenance which sounds like what you did. The key is to keep your same attitude you had before. One day of eating off does not mean you have to give up. Good luck and congrats on your progress so far!0
