Question ! Do you weigh jacket potatoes before you cook then or after? I did it before the other night then after I cooked it and it lost 100g in weight. So which way do I do it to count my cals. Xx

depends which calorie count you're using - if you're using potato, raw then weigh it raw, if you're using potato baked then ...

I generally weigh everything raw for ease.

I would take the higher weight just to err on the side of caution.

Most items are listed in the database in both raw and cooked weight, so just make sure you're using the right one. An entry should state whether it's raw or cooked weight.

I vary. I weigh rice cooked (weighs a lot more than raw). This is because I cook rice for my husband and I in one pot. I'm not going to bother having two saucepans going, just so I can weigh mine raw. On the other hand I weigh pasta raw because we have separate pots for that anyway (he has gluten-free pasta).

Do whichever fits with the way you cook and just be careful to use the correct cals.

weigh everything raw- meat, veggies, etc. what cooks out is water, not calories.

also, look for the NON asterisked ( * ) items. ones with a * are user entered and not always correct. the easiest way to find the correct one (at least for me, maybe theres an easier way I"ve never heard about LOL) is:

    'item raw' so...

    potato raw
    ground beef raw
    spinach raw

If you want something to really mess with your mind, try weighing one right after you buy it and then weigh it after it has been in your pantry for a week.

I find raw is the most accurate I can get, I find alot of variation in weight change depending on how I cook things.
