Jazzercise - Yay or Nay?

I've never done jazzercise. But I volunteer to take the burden off you! Send those tickets on.0

definitely try it. I loved it - we don't have where I live but wish we did. the difference I have noticed (in the places I have gone to) between zumba and jazzercise is the instructor usually faces you in Jazzercise whereas in zumba they don't. the vocal cues in zumba are minimal from what I can tell but in jazzercise they are more detailed. and in my opinion the moves in jazzercise are easier to follow and not as much booty shaking. some booty shaking. not constant, which I felt like zumba was a lot. of. booty. shaking. but yes the important thing to to have fun. moving your body.0

Jazzercise? Um, it's aerobics... With leg warmers and puffy hair... Jazzercise is back, really? Wow. Nothing at all wrong with doing it, lots of people had a lot of fun with it the first time around, but I'm really surprised. OP, I don't think you'll have trouble with the choreography. You'll just get a nice aerobic workout. Enjoy.
Jazzercise never went away. It's been around for 30+ years and has weathered countless exercise trends and fads. And trust me, there are no more leg warmers, thong leotards, or poofy hair.I love love love Jazzercise. Definitely try it out, especially if she bought you a pass! Their website has demonstrations of all the basic moves that every routine is built on, so you can familiarize yourself with what you'll be doing. The moves are seriously not too hard, and it's lots of fun and burns a ton of calories.
I second this as well. I've been doing jazzercise for more than 6 years. I've always enjoyed the variety of the music and routines. The instructors get new routines every 6 weeks so they can always keep their sets fresh. As for feeling out of your element or uncoordinated, let me just say that EVERYONE feels that way at first. It takes a few classes to get the names of the moves matched up with what is being done. But definitely go to the website and check out the instructional videos. Once you have a grasp on the core moves, there's not much else to it.
If you're really self-conscious, just hang in the back and watch what the person in front of you is doing. In all of the classes I've ever been to, I've never felt judged or excluded. And if you ever get lost or frustrated just start marching in place until you can pick up the moves again. It's as great a workout as you make it! Give it a try.0 -
My sister in law prefers Jazzercise over Zumba because there isn't as much shaking of the booty or other sexualization of the exercises.0

I'm a Jazzercise Instructor - so I may be biased. What can I say.... it's an awesome workout - and more importantly it's FUN and you can work at your own intensity level, so great for everyone.0

I say YAY!!! Jazzercise is awesome. I do it 6 days a week. We work out with weights and sometimes exer tubes. Do it at your own pace. The instructor will show you different intensity levels to do. Lace up those tennis shoes, put on some comfy clothes, and grab a water bottle and give it a try.0

I tried it for the first time last year and it was fun. The other people in the class were SUPER supportive and I didn't feel any judgement when I was tripping over my own feet The location I went to didn't seem to take anything too seriously, its about moving more and having some fun at the same time.0

Definitely try it. Jazzercise is so much fun. I've been Jazzercising for 2 years off and on. Great workout also.0

I took it in college and it was a lot of fun, actually. I keep thinking about doing it again, but it costs as much as a gym membership.0

As a retired instructor, let me assure you, most of the time the students are watching the goofball on the stage and really not too much looking at each other. As long as you don't run into someone, you're doing fine.0

Maybe, you've already made up your mind or tried a class, but I own 2 Jazzercise franchises in Houston, TX and became an owner by first a student, then instructor and now owner. In my professional opinion (certified group fitness trainer and personal trainer) this program is formidable in many ways. One, it gets cardio and strength training achieving goals set for both by NCAA recognized organizations. Two, routines always switch and you and your muscles do not get bored. Three, it's fun (dance to current hits), effective (I have watched students lose 100 + pounds with a clean diet and consistency and efficient (one hour, bam 600 cals burned on average, and you're on your way). Hope this helps.0

Jazzercise has evolved )
I love Holly she is a great instructor )0 -
Former 20+ year Jazzerciser here. (Had to quit due to a repetative stress injury.) So yes, in the 80s we had legwarmers and poufy hair. Then the 90s came and the 00s and over the decades they progressed just like everyone else. Don't let the naysayers ruin your opportunity to try something new and fun. It is a good workout. Don't know if they still do circuit training but I really enjoyed those particular classes.
Great calorie burn and the music is updated regularly to the top 40 hits of the day.
My only advice is to go in with an open mind, stand in the back but so you can see the instructor, wear good, supportive shoes. Don't worry that you don't know the steps/routines. Going more than once or twice, you'll catch on quickly.0 -
My mom did it for like 15 years. I went once. Mostly to see my mom dancing to Kanye...that was hilarious.0

Enjoy! I wish I had a friend like that! I love my jazzercise!0

If you wear the skin-toned, camel-toe inducing bodysuit, then nay.
Personally I prefer Prancercise: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-50GjySwew

LOVE Jazzercise, so much fun! I much prefer it over Zumba, as I prefer the music - more top 40 type of music. My mom has been doing it for 30+ years and I join her whenever I can (don't have one near me). I love any sort of dance workout, though. Can't come out of an hour of dancing without a smile on your face. No one is looking at you, they're either (a) concentrating on getting the moves right themselves; or (b) just into the music. Most people feel like a fool if they only go once - it takes a while to get the moves down, but if you forget about getting it perfect and just have fun and give it your all, it's awesome fun and a great workout.0

Ugh an office I worked at had a jazzercise instructor hold classes for us and my co- workers insisted I go. They made me stand in the back after a few minutes because I was always going the wrong way and distracting everyone. Couple this with the humiliation as a young girl in love with the idea of being a ballerina getting kicked out for being hopeless (just as well, they whacked you with a yardstick back then, ouch) and I will never attend any sort of dance class again.
Do yourself a favor and stand in the back from the start if you're as graceless and dance impaired as me.
If it makes you feel better - a friend took me to a kickboxing class that was at this old hard core boxing gym. I kicked the person next to me and PUNCHED MYSELF IN THE FACE.

I am trying it soon too! I vote YAY. There's a reason it's been around for so freaking long.0
