I had to take the first step and talk to my doctor about my depression, but after I did it got a little better. I started with 100 lbs to lose and I'm halfway there, you just gotta take it one day at a time. Visit the recipe section of the forum for some great recipes and blog sites to visit.
As far as the support at home, you're going to have to be strong and make your own happiness. That's what I did in the end. I said screw them and I haven't really looked back.0 -
I lost over 100 lbs in the past year. Believe me, you can do it. Feel free to add me as a friend, but even if you don't want to do that, my food diary is open for anyone to browse.
I cut out maybe 95% of the fast food, and almost all junk food (chips, chocolate, candy). It's tough to do when you're in a habit, but you have to cultivate new habits. I still have the odd egg mcmuffin or cheesy poofs or something, but it's 1 serving, not 3. I don't eat salads very often, or smoothies, or kale juice, or organic-paleo-fad-food of the week. I eat normal food. I have to be realistic with myself. If I tried to force myself to eat rabbit food/portions all day I would not have stuck to it this long. You CAN do this, and you don't need to eat super-healthy to do it. Monitor your calories, and stay under your designated limit and you WILL lose the weight.
You have to make the decision to change on your own. No one can make you do it. Make the changes and stick with them every day. It's difficult, but in a way it's the most boring thing in the world.... to make that change, but then commit to doing the same thing every day for a year. You prepare your meals, you log, you weigh your food out, you shop, you log that exercise, even if it's just a short walk. You do this all day every day, this becomes your new habit, instead of your previous eating/snacking behavior.0 -
I'm curious why your family isn't supportive. That certainly would make it tougher. For me, my partner equated healthy food with gross food. She also has felt more pressure to lose weight now that I've lost almost 30 lbs, which I think is hard for her. While I am certain you can lose weight without the support of your family, that support would certainly make it easier. I would love to offer any suggestions in this area as well.0
