I know its not the perkiest thing to talk about, but I just wondered if any other ladies notice the scales are slightly up when its 'time of the month'?
I have been staying under my calories and exercising still, but since my period started a coupla days ago i've noticed i've gone from 165.0 to 165.6 - I feel especially bloated, I only gave birth 4 months ago so monthly cycle is still sorting itself out.
Hoping that its normal to notice this, cos if it isn't then im going wrong somewhere but it wouldnt really make sense cos i've lost a stone doing exactly what i've been doing.... any answers appreciated!

im with you there hun, was my tom last week and i gained 5 lb overnight, good news is that once tom has ended this will go back plus whatever weight you have lost so dont give up or be dis-heartened. your body retains water so make sure you drink plenty to help avoid water retention.0

I can gain anything from 2-6lb over a few days, it will right itself but can be quite disheartning. dont give up and you will have a lovely suprise at the end as you suddenly lose all that weight plus a little more when your body returns to normal.0

I gain about 2lbs and it takes a few days to settle back down - don't panic drink lots of water and keep the healthy foods up and you'll see the pounds melt again when your TOTM is over0

during mine, i usually gain 1-3lbs. So I don't even weigh myself until like 2 days after it's gone bc it will just get me down.0

I just was googling this very topic last week - haha glad to see the same answers on here, I'm back down - don't worry0
-
Yep! I'm currently up 3lbs since my weigh-in a week ago. Am not bothered though - it will go.0

Having a similar problem right now, or at least HOPE that's my problem. I've been stuck at the same weight for 2 weeks now and have had an average of an 700 cal deficit everyday for the past 14 days. The problem is complicated by the fact that I started my pre-TOM symptoms about a week ago, spotted Thursday morning and haven't had anything sense. (Sorry about the TMI.) Still feel the pre-TOM bloat AND back pain after 5-7 days. I've never wanted to start my period so badly, just so I can get over it. GRRRR!!!!0

dont worry about it..its a little off putting..but i've learned for me personally I go up a whopping 5 lbs during that TOM.
but then drop back to normal a few days later0 -
well i was due a week ago but was late, friday i weighed and had gained 0.8lb! come fri evening i looked 6 months pregnant. sat morn i came on, and hey presto this morning belly has gone down and so has my gain. i don't usually gain from totm but this time i DID. but i am breast feeding my 18 month old and am all over the shop0

Absolutely, the scale goes up during that TOM, quite a bit. I usually just stay away from the scale during that week. I can retain water like nobody's business.0
-
Thank god for that -- looking forward to seeing the scales drop this week!!0
-
I always wait a few days after TOM before weighing. I'm sure it's just temporary0
-
Yep! I stay away from my scale when TOM comes. The number usually makes me depressed lol0

I typically gain the week before my tom hits. By the time it comes around, the bloating has gone down. It also really depends on what birth control you're using, I've found. When I was using an IUD (non hormonal form), I would gain something like 6-8 pounds some months. Talk about disheartening! I'm using a hormonal form now (Nuva Ring), which really helps with the cramps and heavy bleeding, and I haven't noticed any substantial weight gain this month. Go figure.0

i have to LOL at this because i am the weirdo who always LOSES weight on day 2... i guess i am holding weight before-hand, making it seem like my weight loss is at a small standstill and when things start happening w TOM, my water retention issues are resolved and my weight takes a sudden nose dive. Its happend 4 or 5 months in a row now!! Crazy, but i enjoy my heavy TOM days in the sense that i can usually look forward to seeing a new low number on the scale! :drinker: If i HAVE to put up with my TOM, it may as well have some perks, right? lol :grumble:0

no worries...absolutely normal. be sure to be extra careful about your sodium intake around then also. you should see a difference next week. best of luck!! :flowerforyou:0

My loss will stop cold for more than a week, sometimes I even "regain" a few pounds. Then, the day I wake up to "oh, you again," the scale ticks back down within a day, not just to where I was before, but to the lower number I had been expecting to reach.0

I had thought about posting something about this very thing!! Stepped on the scale this am and I hadn't lost an ounce! It's day 3 of TOM for me and I do seem to hang onto the water. Frustrating!0
-
I choose not to weigh that week - tend to have a lot of water weight or something. Too discouraging - I too normally return back to a good place - just too mentally unmotivating to be on the scale that week. Hang in there - it will be ok.0

Exactly what i experience! Its nice to know i am not alone in this phenomenon... i hear so many ppl on MFP saying they gain weight at that time and i have felt like the oddball  I guess we can be oddballs together0 -
