Fat comes off where it wants too. No spot reducing.

Uh your measurements though....I'd be happy just saying.

    Give it time.

We can't pick and choose where the weight will come off. Incidentally....I'm a pear when I'm thin also. Just do the best you can (no guarantees)....despite what advertisers "promise." This is determined by genetics.

Unfortunately there is not much you can do to help this - your genes determine where and when the weight comes off. You can help some with weight lifting, but mostly you just have to wait and see.

I feel your pain though. I have lost about 20 and while there is some difference in my thighs and hips the bulk has come from my upper body. I am hoping the more I lose the more proportionate I will become.

Well nothing is really going to change where the fat comes from, but the only way to replace the fat with muscle is lifting. I really need to start lifting...

I was a pear! I don't have exact numbers, but I definitely lost from my chest and upper body first. I'm 5'8 and started at 228. Now at 186 I am definitely more hour glass! My thighs and love handles are definitely still an issue, but I know in the next 30 pounds the weight's gotta come off from there =]

Agreed with the others though - your body shape is your body shape. You can try adjusting your body fat % and lifting to build certain muscles in order to appear a certain way. But there is no way to spot reduce the fat. It comes off where it wants, when it wants.

I have lost 3/4 of an inch in 2 months off my hips and 2 inches from my waist. It's a crap shoot. Sorry sweetie!

I also have a 15 inch difference between my waist and hips, and the only person who seems to mind it is me. And that's mostly when it comes to clothes shopping.

Running and getting my calorie deficit right have helped me lose inches from my lower body, but I always lose weight from my upper body first. Such is life!

The weight on my hips comes off last. I would definitely recommend strength training once you get to your goal and that will help you balance you out as well.

    I am also pear shaped.
I have no boobs... yet they seem to keep shrinking....
I want to get rid of the little shelf above my butt.

As a fellow pear-shaped person, I feel your pain. The thighs are always the last place I lose weight and the fact that I'm a bit muscular, too, means they have been and always will be large. As others have stated, genetics determines where your body stores fat and where it comes from while you're losing weight. The good news is, those of us who store it in places other than our bellies are less prone to heart disease.

If you're thinking about weight lifting the time is now, not when you reach your goal weight. In my opinion, strength training it's more important than doing cardio. When we lose weight it is a combination of water, fat and muscle. It is much easier to maintain the muscle you already have than to build new muscle. Strength training helps to retain the muscle you already have so more of the weight you lose will be from fat. You'll also look much better once you reach goal because you'll be firm, not soft.

Ugh the dreaded pear. I hate it. I wear typically a size 10 in pants, but I've been asked if I was underweight by people who have only seen pictures of me from the chest up.

Most people my weight wear size 3-6 depending on how tall they are. So I know a big part of it for me is that I have less muscle than fat but arrrgh.

So true! Everyone loves my waist to hip ratio. But it is hell dressing for this body type!

Thank you for your reply :) I have been strength training and a good amount of cardio. I think I might just be a little impatient with results. Hopefully everyone is right and I will start to lose on my hips. I don't necessarily want to change my shape per say but I wouldnt mind having a smaller butt and legs

Curvy pants are our friends! I've been very pleased to see more and more retailers recognizing that many women aren't built like pencils and need a smaller waist to hip ratio. Eddie Bauer was one of the first I found with a curvy line. Levi's now has one and so does Target.

    23 inch waist? Dayum.

I started with 29 inch waist and 44 inch hips-extreme pear. I've lost 30 pounds and 6 inches from my hips, but only 2.25 from my waist. Not so much a pear anymore which is a little sad.

Anyway, can't spot reduce. I lost from calorie deficit/lifting/luck of the draw.

Yes, another fellow pear and I hate, hate, hate my saddlebags... I know it's my own darn fault for the weight I've gained, but genetics does play a role (inherited from my mom's side). I've lost 22 lbs. and 90% of it has been from the waist up, including my boobs which were none to generous to start with. I do lower body workouts, including lunges and planks, and every time I do I keep thinking, 'is this going to make my butt bigger?? Lord I hope not!'

And buying clothes is bothersome... jeans are usually gigantic in the waist if I can get them to fit through the hips. But all things considered, I guess there are worse things in life.
