home for the holidays

i'm a college student and have returned home for winter break. although INCREDIBLY excited to be with family and friends, and without homework, i'm not so excited about the food choices that surround me. while at school, i buy all kinds of low-cal foods (i love to eat, and get munchy sometimes, so i stock up on the low-cal stuff so that i can eat comfortably and not go over my daily calorie goal). but at home, my family doesn't buy that stuff. first, because my brother and dad like flavor, and are convinced that if it's low-cal, it's no-good. second, my family buys a lot of the generic brand foods, and the generic stuff doesn't come in "light" varieties as often as the brand-name stuff.
anyway, im just trying to find a way to make it through the break (a whole month!) with "real" food and without having to spend 2 hours a day running/on the elliptical in order to not go over my daily calorie goal.. or worse: gain the weight i've lost!
any tips and/or plain motivation would be greatly appreciated!

Maybe buy some of your own stuff...when I was at home I would stock up a tupperware container with food just for me, and my family didn't bother it because I'd bought it. It's not that expensive to just supplement your diet with healthier options. You can still eat the veggies/fruits/meat they eat, and for snacks or side dishes eat your own healthier food.0

I'm in the same boat that you are, but my mom does buy a lot of fruits and vegetables. Most of our fruit is in a bowl on the counter, so since that it usually what I see first, it's what I choose first. You could have your family buy more fruit and keep it in a place that you'll see it often.
My mom also buys skim milk just for me, which helps a lot. Nobody else in my family will drink it and if you're the same way then maybe just getting a 1/2 gallon would be good for you.
You could ask your parents to buy the low-cal snacks for you and you could keep them in your room so that you don't have to deal with your dad and brother being upset. Maybe you could even ask for a section of your refrigerator to be set aside for you and you could keep your healthy food like skim milk, low-fat yogurt, fruits and veggies in that section.
I hope that helps!0 -
Another idea would be to take the snacks that your family has, portion out 100 calories, put those in ziplock bags as your own 100-calorie packs that you keep separate for yourself.0
