help - vacation time - what to eat ?

Im from the UK. My diet is really quite plain ( which I love ) low fat and low carb. Ive lost 40 pounds since 1st Jan.

Im off to Disney and a cruise in 3 weeks time. Ive got a 14 day vacation. Im really worried what I can eat ? Ive been quite a few times before ( fat ) but last year ( on weight loss journey ) I actually lost weight as I refused to eat anything but spit roast chicken, meats and salads. It was easy as I went solo trip and had lots of free time to go to the supermarket.

This year its me and my younger boyfriend who loves burgers and fast food. Its an action packed schedule as its his first trip - so no real time for supermarket trips save the second day. We do have a fridge.

HELP - what to eat ? Im thinking meat as far as possible and not being tempted by the stuff he eats. Dunno how I'll account for the calories either. Its spoiling the build up tbh - i really need to keep on track to lose weight before Im 50 later this year

Can you find out in advance what they're having on the cruise? As for Disney, they have all kinds of food there and you should be able to stay within your calorie goals. You can have "fun foods," just keep them within your calorie allotment. It will still be estimating, because even when some food locales put nutrition info up online or have it available at the restaurant, it's not as if the chefs are back there weighing and measuring everything to make sure it matches the posted NI. :) But you can come within the ballpark, anyway.
  • Wow younger boyfriends
  • Try having younger husband . I feel u. I have learned it takes 3 to 5 min for them to eat a burger and fries lol. So just order steak and veggies and enjoy convo and have fun

If there's a buffet, you can be more in control. you can choose wisely, just don't go back for seconds. As for my husband, he is a foot taller than I am, and a lot more active. It just is not fair, but if I keep up with his eating habits, well, I end up where I am now...

You should still try to eat how you have been eating--fill 2/3 of your plate with plain veggies or salad and then have meat/starch for the rest. Drink lots of water. Resist going back for seconds if it's a buffet. Have dessert if you want, but maybe split it with your boyfriend. If going out for fast food, check the menus/calorie counts online--you can still make reasonable choices at many restaurants. Going out for burgers? Ask for a to-go box, immediately cut the burger in half and tuck half away in the box (along with half the fries) and eat the remainder. If you have no interest in eating leftover hamburger and french fries--conveniently forget the box on the table when you leave the restaurant.

My husband and I love burgers. One of us always gets French fries and the other gets veg of some kind - we split both (well, I have about six fries - enough to make me feel like I ate a burger and fries). I never eat the bun, because it's wasted calories for me. So, hamburg patty, cheese, a few fries and a vegetable. Not a bad dinner. Don't ask me about alcohol on vacation, though. I won't be logging my Vegas vacation at all. It's like those days were eradicated from the calendar altogether, lol!

Keep it as green and natural as possible (I read that and it makes perfect sense). Salads and fresh fruit. And stay really active... walk, run, swim, use the ship's gym facilities. Cruises have so much food it's actually pretty easy to eat well. Never been to Disney but I'm also guessing they will have some healthy food options.

If you eat a decadent dessert, don't ruin the whole trip with guilt, enjoy it, exercise, and move on. Go and have fun!

I know this isn't what you are asking about but you would have an easier time keeping it off/not gaining so quickly if you lost in a way that was more similar to your normal eating habits. More sustainable and sets you up for long term success.

Lol- these are my now normal eating habits ! Lots of natural foods and no processed junk. No alcohol and lots of exercise with low carbs. What I fear the most is I'll be outside my confort zone and in a minefield of fatty sugary processed rubbish - I'll have to stick with simple meats that havent been messed around with :)

I think salads / meats are good ideas, and if you do go for the higher calorie foods, just eat smaller portions. I would look to maintain during the trip, not lose. If you do come back and see that you've slightly gained, it'll be weight that comes off rather quick once you're back to your normal routine

So you're going to eat like this FOREVER? Because, you know, this is a lifestyle change.

Also you should probably increase your calories if you're losing fast. 1-2lbs a week (2lbs max) is the norm. You "lose fast" because you eat very low calorie.

Fatty sugary "processed rubbish" dodesn't cause weight gain. Calories do. Eat food within your maintenance calorie needs and you won't gain. Estimating while still logging or getting proper caloric info online will work just fine.

I'm off to Disney on April 18th. I have the same concerns! I've worked hard and I don't want to undo lots of hard work. Feel free to friend me and we can chat about Disney food options:)

If you do a little homework, you can look at the menu's in the parks before you go.

Thanks -but Thats the thing ! Ive been many times before so unfortunately I know what food is there. Im not one that eats small amount of " processed or bad or takeaway " food in moderation. Ive never have been able to - id rather keep away from it than taste it then get the craving to eat it.

Im pleased some on here can eat in moderation, but ive recognised I cant, and 330 told me I cant either.

Cheers for all the tips - at least I can log in here daily and keep track as much as possible :)

Meh...I'm heading out Friday for a spring vacation...I'm just going to enjoy myself...not saying I'm just going to go crazy, but I'm not going to worry too much about it. In the grand scheme of things, it's pretty irrelevant...I actually usually end up losing weight on vacation because I'm up and about all day long doing this and that and seeing what there is to see...whereas at home I workout, but my normal daily life is behind a desk.

Congrats on your weight loss! However, you put the weight back on just as quickly because you are losing it so quickly. Do you plan on eating like this for the rest of your life?
