Frustration with sugar

Does anyone else consistently go over on sugar consumption if they are monitoring it? I'm allowed 24 units of sugar a day on our daily allowances, but I go over every single day  ! Milk has like 9 units and if I have an apple or any type of FOOD I'm automatically over. Does anyone else experience this? Does it really make a difference? Is it correct to feel like I'm failing with this?

Um......I dont usually go over my limits (if I'm not "cheating"...hehe:blushing: ). I try my best to check the nutritional value on MFP prior. That may not help you much but for what its worth. :flowerforyou:0

I go over every day too!!! But I eat alot of fruit and a fellow MFP told me that natural sugars are okay because the body knows what to do with them. ....sooo as long as it is not an added sugar I think you are okay.0

This posting spurred a question for me. How closely do you need to meet your nutritional goals? I am usually slightly over or under....not a huge difference, but greeneyedgirl has got me questioning it now!!!! lol :indifferent:0 -
Howdy!
I'm brand new here today, and that's part of the reason I searched for a site like this... I know I've been overdoing the sugar, but wanted to know by how much.
I share your pain! I'm allowed 36g. It seems far too low... I am not close to exceeding any of the other limits. if you're supposed to eat 5 fruits and veggies a day, then it only takes 2-3 to blow the sugar limit. I am trying to figure out what I can alter to accommodate that. Obviously I don't want to cut out healthy foods... I guess I could stop slathering those sticks of butter with honey. Sigh.
If I figure out any good tips/tricks, I will happily share with you. I've picked up unsweetened soy milk to go with my breakfast cereals, and I'm going to switch to cheerios and the like to cut back on sugar there (I normally eat healthy high fiber/high-protein cereal, but it often contains 15g sugar, yikes!).
Good luck cutting back, it's tough - sugar is tasty! Are you monitoring for a specific health reason or just to try to come in under the MFP recommendation?0 -
that seems super low, especially if you're wanting to eat fruit. Perhaps you will need to switch to more vegetable eating than fruit if you want to accomplish that?0

The sugars in milk, fruits, vegetables, grains, and sweets are all very different. Don't concern yourself with milk/vegetable sugars as they have a tiny impact on blood glucose levels. Some fruits have a larger impact, bleached grains (white bread/white rice) are a bit higher, and sweets are way up there.
If your sugars are coming from non-sweets, don't worry about it. They're unavoidable but don't spike blood glucose and are just sources of energy. If they're coming from table sugar or corn syrup, count them and keep them under control.0 -
Okay, I feel better now Most of my sugar intake is from non-sweets (fruits, dairy and whole grains), so I guess that makes it better. Thank you guys!0

Jwinfield, right there with you lol I'm usually pretty good on everything, except for the sugar. I'm glad I got this answered, and I'm pretty sure as long as you generally follow the guidelines, you will be okay.
I was just basically trying to follow the guidelines, no exact health reason other than trying to become healthier
I just raised a red flag because the sugar is constantly over, but now I know why
Thank you everybody!0 -

Once again, SBS rocks! You are getting better by the day in your explanations, too. WTG, girl! :flowerforyou:0 -
I'm having problem going over my sugar consumption, too, and sodium. I'm also allowed only 24g of sugar a day as well. It's very fustrating. But it's my fault because I consume a few not-so good foods. :blushing: My only advice is learn from my lesson, and consume things that are actually healthy!0
