Not new, but trying again

I just turned 42 last month and am in the worst shape of my life. Four years ago I was just over 250 lbs. By exercising and using Myfitnesspal to count calories I got down to 215, but I have since found all the weight I lost and more. I am 5'9" and weigh 278 lbs. My doctors have told me for quite a while that I need to loose weight. I can never seem to find the motivation. I want to be fit again like I was in my early 30's. I want to want to be active and eat right. I want to look better and feel better about myself. I want my clothes to fit or better yet I want to buy new clothes because the ones I have are too big. The problem is, I'm weak and have little self control. I love to eat. I love to drink beers and cocktails. I am an emotional eater and drinker. I tell myself "tomorrow is the day I get my *kitten* on track". The problem is, tomorrow comes and goes and I put it off again. I would love to get down under 200 lbs. (190 is my ultimate goal). I just struggle with motivation. I tell myself " In the morning I will get up and go to the gym before work". Then when the alarm goes off again I tell myself "tomorrow". I need to do this, I know my weight is killing me and if I don't get a handle on it now, it will only get worse. So, I am trying this again. I know it will not be easy, I only hope I can stop saying "tomorrow".

Make yourself a priority. Start logging your food, regardless of how good or bad you're eating. Learning to log food properly will establish a starting point. Stop making excuses. Set the alarm early. Get out of bed. "FEET, FLOOR" is something you should make a daily habit, and get your butt on the treadmill! I'm 42 and hit a high of 330 pounds a few years ago. I lost a lot of weight, gained most of it back and restarted again last month. I still weigh more than you, so I can definitely relate.0

i too lost weight with mfp, only to gain it back again. sooo frustrating! i also struggle with motivation, but if you can just get through a full week of exercising every day, you will notice your metabolism improving. it WILL get easier and easier to get up and get moving, possibly to the point where you WANT to get up and go for a run, or whatever. i've done the "tomorrow" thing too many times to count, and realized it's like the dangling carrot. you'll never catch it.
feel free to add me. good luck!0 -
Hey there! I was in a similar position recently. My weight was affecting my health, and I needed to lose about 50 lbs. Since January, I've been able to lose 30 lbs by being consistent with using MFP to monitor my calories, exercising 4 days per week, and trying not to stress myself out about weight.
You were able to lose in the past; I'm sure you can do it again! For me, once these things started to become part of my normal routine, it became a lot easier. Have faith in yourself. Feel free to add me as a friend if you might want extra support.

Ahhh that dreaded tomorrow... I know it well... I can relate to every word just like it was coming out of my own mouth... 46 here, I have herniated disk in my back and in my neck along with a little aneurysm in one of my arteries to my brain so I am limited to what i can do for exercise so I used that as total excuse and gained a lot of weight and now I am chronic pain everyday so 10 days ago was my TOMORROW that turned into today.... Diets don't work, it has to be a complete lifestyle change... It's hard but I have this feeling it will totally be worth it... WE GOT THIS!!!!0

Well, I didn't get my sorry @ss out of bed this morning. I'm not too upset by this because I exercised hard and eat well yesterday. I have good food choices packed for work today and am going to exercise after work. JohnBarth, I think I need to move my alarm to the other side of the bedroom so I can start getting out of bed "feet, floor". Thank you all for the encouraging words.
If you would like to add me, please feel free to do so.0
