Curious on Certain Food Items

Options
HI! I have a few stomach issues (nothing serious)/acid reflux/gastritis. The doctors mentioned a FODMAP diet. I looked at it and it would probably irritate my acid reflux. I do have hypothyroidism. I don't have celiac disease. My doctor mentioned about a gluten free diet. I found it impossible :) I suppose I might have gluten sensitivity. I have symptoms when I eat 100% whole wheat bread but I can eat wheat thins. Go figure. I can eat somethings and not other things. DOES CHEERIOS HAVE GLUTEN IN IT???? just wondering. It says 100% whole grain oats but on the ingredients it says like wheat starch??? I feel like I'v been on every diet possible. Been on MFP a few times. I'm on day 2 again. Doing well. I'm just sticking with low calories and not eating nearly as much as I did. Trying foods and seeing if it agrees and not trying foods I think is sorta a pain.

Hopefully anyone can give a thought to my experience :)

Sounds similar to me. If I eat things that are too high in fiber, like wholegrain bread my stomach is very painful. To be relatively symptom free I have to keep my fiber intake pretty low and have just worked out what else sets me off by a process of elimination. Not everyone is the same so I think instead of cutting out food groups etc, the best thing to do is try an elimination diet where you cut out a certain food for a week or so and then reintroduce it. If your symptoms flare up it may be responsible so best to avoid eating that food too much.

You never know what might be causing this. For me it was tomatoes and onions, tree nuts, etc. I put them in almost everything I cooked and also had constant GERD and sinus infections. I finally saw an ENT specialist who was also an allergist. He tested me for food allergies and I now have a list of things I avoid -- I haven't had a sinus infection in so long I can't remember.

    Cheerios are not gluten free.

I had some allergy testing done as well, & I found out that I am allergic to certain foods. I eliminated them from my diet, and it has really helped with my allergies, my skin issues, my stomach issues, and I've even lost a little bit of weight.

Post-Bariatric patients can develop all sorts of sensitivities and sometimes texture is an issue. For instance, soft breads are hard for me, but if I toast them, I'm fine. I am advised if something bothers me to cut it for a few weeks and try again.

You twigged my curiosity so I looked up the FODMAP list.

When I had acid reflux it was from eating too large a meal before bed. When I cut high carbs from my evening the reflux went away. But of course my issue may be much simpler than yours.
