edited November 15 in Introduce Yourself
When I started trying to lose weight I was 170 lbs. I have lost weight. I have only been on My Fitness Pal for about a week. Is it normal for the scale to read 161 one day but the next day I gain weight? I am eating healthy and exercising almost daily. Could the problem be that I also decided to quit smoking at the same time? My goal is to be 130 lbs. before November 11, 2017. I have to look perfect in the dress my beautiful daughter has chosen for me to wear at her wedding. Sorry I do everything early!

Yes this is normal, your body weight will fluctuate from day to day due to several factors, weigh yourself every few days or once a week for 6 weeks and look at the trend over time. If after 6 weeks you are not seeing the results you would like then readjust from there.

Absolutely DO NOT be sorry, you are doing this very intelligently. People often fail because they set impossible time frames that require them to lose too fast or fail to realize they might need a few weeks to adapt to their new calorie goal and learn to successfully stick to it. All you have done is set yourself up for success.

Yes weight fluctuations are normal, its best not to weigh in daily. Pick a day & time to weigh in weekly. And in your first week or two you will lose a lot of water weight, don't get discouraged if in the following week you are not losing at a rapid rate. 1/2lb - 2lb is natural
    Reasons for fluctuations:
    - Didnt drink enough water the day before
    - Too much salt the day before ( this also ties in drinking enough water, waters helps flush the salt)
    - Constipation/Bloated
    - Had a carb heavy day ( even if you were in you calories)
    - Muscles in recovery after a workout
    - not eating enough ( this sounds odd, but your body will hold on to fat if it doesn't think its getting enough food for energy)

Congrats on quitting smoking! That's awesome! I have recently quit myself! I am going on four months  You can do this! You will make your daughter proud
