Aw nuts...

Are nuts actually good for you? I've heard a lot of people say they are but every time i look at the nutritional details on the packaging (or on MFP) it seems like the reverse. I'm currently munching on a few cashews for morning tea, and it just got me wondering.

In moderation, nuts are an excellent source of protein and mono- or poly-unsaturated fat (the "good" fat). They are also tasty and have that satisfying crunch. Better for you than chips, at any rate!
Better if they are dry roasted and unsalted. But watch your portions. Check the serving size and don't go overboard.

What's a good serving size for nuts? I think i just had about half a cup, was that too much?

I love almonds and walnuts chopped on salad and whole almonds as a snack. 1/4 cup is considered a serving and is about 210 calories. Agreed that it's a moderation item.

1 oz is what most labels say. If you don't have a food scale, you may want to get one so you can weigh food.
