Planning your daily calories in the morning

Sounds strange, but I've found that the most effective way for me to stick to a plan is to set it out in the morning beforehand. I log all of the things I'm planning on eating while I'm making breakfast. That way, I know how much to budget (and I can also leave a couple hundred calories for unexpected things). I do the same with my exercise - that way, I'm less likely to skip a workout, because it's already factored into my day.

It isn't strange. Many people even do it the night before or several days in advance.0

i do the same. I tend to eat the same things day in day out so that helps with planning but i input everything the night before or in the morning. its satisfying to me to see what I have to look forward to that day.0

That's what I've done from the start. So no strange. I feel that's how I get myself out of sticky situations.0

Logging my calories for breakfast and lunch and planning dinner has become part of my morning routine. Alarm, morning business, treadmill, coffee, log food, shower, work. I recently had a discussion that that needs to become my new lifestyle, so I may be logging calories forever. :-)0

I do this the night before. I plan out my meals and workout(s) and it makes my life a lot easier. Takes the guess work out of things and also like you said OP it helps me to plan out my treats.
For dinners though I plan them out for the upcoming week so I can go to the market once a week. I'm just a really organized person.0 -
I love your avatar, I think I've shared that pic on every social media I use!
To the subject at hand: I have prelogged food, but prelogging exercise isn't something I do because then it makes me feel like exercise is something I have to do instead of want to do. I get that it works for others but I really enjoy exercise and do it almost every day--until it becomes mandatory.0 -
Nice! Good to know that other people do this - I'm sorta new at this, and I was a little scared that I was putting too much pressure on myself. Cheers, guys0

I do it too. I find I stay on my plan better when it is all mapped out in advance. On work days I take all of my food for the day with me, so logging ahead of time is easy. As long as I only eat what I bring, I am within calorie budget.0

I plug in dinner first since that's the meal I eat with others and have the least control over. Then I plan my breakfast, lunch and snacks, and I can see how much walking I need to squeeze into my day if I'm not within goal.0
