Decision made! I'm getting healthy

I've just turned 33 and I weigh 200 lbs. I have decided enough is enough and my life is going to change. When I was 18 years old I got pregnant and married, I weighed 100 at 6 months pregnant. A few months later I was in a bad car accident. I gave birth to my still born son a few hours later. My husband and I were so young that we had no life experience to help us deal with the great tragedy. I suffered from post traumatic stress disorder for about six months after. This involved a feeling of being attacked. I couldn't sleep for fear of being attacked or killed in my sleep. My poor husband supported me through all of this while working a low paying full time job to support us. This is when I became obsessed with food and alcohol. I ate and drank when I started to feel scared or upset over the loss of our son.
It's now several years later, I've had two healthy, happy children and I'm still with the amazing man who has stood by me at my worst. I have overcome my addiction to alcohol as it was a necessity to be a functional parent, but I never felt that food was effecting me in a bad way.
I have now discovered that food has effected me as much as alcohol ever did, I'm tired, I have no energy to enjoy things with my children, I look and feel terrible. I want my children to be proud of me for being strong, I want to do all the things they want me to do. Skating, snowboarding, hiking.
Here I go, I have my reason to get healthy and they are the best reason imaginable.

That's awesome!! Congrats on your journey to get healthy. Here if you need words of encouragement or just to say hi.
I myself am working on getting fit as well. I'm going on 44 this year and have been overweight most of my life. Not expecting to be bikini model or anything like that, but definitely wanting to feel better and be healthy. Oh, my name is Mary by the way.0 -
Hi Mary thanks for the reply. I'm hoping to loose 50 lbs in 2 years. I think this is pretty reasonable, I don't want to get discouraged by setting a crazy goal. Just like you I'm not wanting to be model skinny, just healthy. All the best Mary0

Thanks, I've decided that being healthy on the inside should be just as important as the outside. I never tell anyone about my past and that is the first time I've written it out. I love how supportive everyone has been0
