Hi There!
For the most part, I'm a sedentary person but spring is coming and our 2 dogs sure would LOVE the walks. Just joking - Yes, I know I need to move more! :-)
Anyhow, thinking of getting a device to sync with my smart phone (Android). A device like Fitbit, for example.
What device do you recommend?
Tks!

Well, if you want it just for walks, then you probably want something else. A Fitbit is a full day activity tracker. The calorie burn it gives includes your BMR, tracked daily activity and exercise. It can be linked to MFP and will adjust calories based on a calorie burn comparison (MFP's estimate vs Fitbit's). If Fitbit calorie burn is higher, you get added calories to make up the difference. If it's lower you either get 0 calories or a negative adjustment.
I like Fitbit. They have a few different models and if you go with them, just pick the model that will fit your lifestyle the best.
As for if you just want something to track exercise, I can't really help there. I'm not sure of any that are just for exercise and sync to a phone. The only ones I'm aware of (Fitbit, Jawbone, VivoFit, Vivosmart, apple watch) are all full day activity trackers.0 -
I Just checked polar M400 and it appears to be for runners/joggers and those training seriously. I'm trying to slowly get into exercise and Shadow2Soul, yes, I was going to see the FitBits at FutureShop but then thought, "Hey! There seems to be a whole plethora of different devices and why stop at the first one I see on the net!"
Right now, asking you peeps.... checking out Cust comments on different devices and wondering what's right for "me". Thinking that walking and dancing in my home might be the baby steps required, for now.
Thanks a bunch!

Hey Carolynmo! I was just looking at them, at Futureshop. I think you can even swim with them! Well, they're good up to 10 meters of water and there's NO WAY you'll see me go over my head in water, but I DO love swimming! Seriously thinking about the Flex.... for now, anyhow. Next year, who knows, eh? LOL!!!
Thanks for the advice!0 -
I have the Vivosmart and it is great for daily tracking and motivating you to walk more. For my cardio I use the Wahoo HRM strap since they are more accurate than wrist band devices for accurate heart rate monitoring. There are lots of apps for running, biking, or swimming or combi of all. For now I use iSmoothrun for my running statistics and the Wahoo app for biking. I have not started swimming yet but from what I understand the Wahoo with record my heart rate data and sync when I am done with my swim.
I looked at all the smart watched and even tried the Fenix 2 but my phone does everything those do with the exception of swimming and give me more options.
So for now my fitness toys:
Vivosmart Fitness Band
Withings WiFi scale
Quadlock for Running, Biking and driving
Brooks running shoes (awesome!!!)
Apps:
MyFitnessPro (of course)
iSmoothRun
Wahoo Fitness
Connect for Garmin
C25K for running training

I use a zephyr HxM Bluetooth wireless Heart Rate Sensor and it connects with Endomondo which also syncs with MFP. I've had it for 3 years and and have no problems with it. On endomondo you can choose which activity you'll be doing e.g walking. You have to wet the band for it to work. You can get it anywhere online. I've seen prices range from 40 to 60 bucks. When I got i, it was newer so I paid a bit more. Anyways, I love it and hope this helps.0

I use a Polar FT7 HRM (with chest strap). Wanted it mostly to track my heart rate since I've gotten serious about heart health in addition to losing weight. It gives calories burned and is waterproof so can be worn swimming. It does not report distance/steps. It's very easy to use.
Received good reviews from MFP users and it was on sale on Amazon for less than $70.0
