Hi everyone! I'm new to myfitnesspal and fitbit as well. I need some advice on how to exercise and not overdo it, but do enough to lose weight when I battle Fibromyalgia and was just diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. Any advice would help from exercise to menu tips. It's easy to fall to something fast and easy (usually unhealthy) choices when you hurt everywhere. lol. Hope to hear from you all soon!

Advice: consult with you doctor and physical therapist how to exercise with these serious issues.

Getting advice from amateurs on a web forum when one has such issues is chancy. But then, you just got advice. lol

I have Fibro too, it's a personal thing depending on your level of fitness, how severe your fibro is and it's also something that in a way you have to learn yourself. What works for me, certainly does not work for others I know AND I don't know how many months it took before I actually learned to listen to my body when it said it had enough. Now I am so much more in tune with myself.

I would consult with your Rheumy, they generally have their finger on the pulse in regards to exercise and can put you in touch with an exercise specialist, depending on your circumstances.

As for diet, be strong, go hard. Because if you can get your eating under control, the rest seems so much easier. Please feel free to add me if you want another fibro friend xxx

I would definitely check in with your rheumy to make sure you are ok for working out, in general you should be but still check. I have both RA and fibro and my doc just encourages me to do as much as I can without causing intolerable pain. I do walking, yoga and some cardio but I have to listen to my body, one day I may be able to walk fast others it may seem like I walked the slowest mile ever. Also my doc told me that the more you move the less pain you should have as it keeps your joints looser, I have seen that for the most part but I still have days where I just can't work out.

So check with your doc, but then remember slow and steady.

I have arthritis as well. I can't do high impact exercises for long. I walk at least 60 minutes everyday and do yoga twice a day. I'd definitely recommend yoga or at least some light stretching. It's really eased my pain. Water exercise is by far the best if you have access to that. Be sure to check with your rheum first though!

I suffer with MS and I was told by a personal trainer to do cardio exercises sat down such as hand cycle, exercise bike, cross trainer (with seat), etc as they would help, but most importantly to STOP immediately if any pain started or got worse.
