Hi
I just ordered my first protein powder from the protein works to try as I'm aiming for a higher protein and lower carb diet and I'm struggling to meet my protein goals through food alone (so please save the 'get your protein through food' suggestions)... What are your experiences? How often do you use it? What do you personally add it to, shakes or recipes? Thanks

just started with my protein powder, too! take a look at my diary, I have lots of recipes with unflavoured/flavoured protein powders to drive up my protein intake every day!! (I am not a huge meat eater so it was also very important for me to combine the powder into my diet).

I have to hit around 200 grams of protein a day so I use two shakes. This is partly because I cannot be bothered cooking and partly because I can't afford lots of meats.

i was also looking to up my protein, and i do like to bake breakfast bars for eating in the morning, so i bought some hemp protein powder (it cost about £3 for a tester 100g bag from my local Real Foods health shop) to add into them. it doesn't have a strong taste, as far as i can tell, and mixes well into food. it does have an offputting colour, if that would be a factor for you, a kinda of dull grey-green.
i mixed 50g into a batch of black-bean brownies which worked out really well, and 5-10g can be added to soups as well.
for me adding it to food without affecting the taste was important.

i have also tried meal-replacement shakes to try and increase my nutrition whilst decreasing calories, but personally found them very unsatisfying.

amazon.co.uk has 300g bags for about £7 each, with whey, or hemp, or pea or soy proteins that might be worth trying before getting one of those huge tubs.

happy to share the brownie recipe if you like, though it might take me a while to figure out. i am new to the site!

    Put it in oats
    Mix it with yogurt
    Drink it with milk
    Use it in smoothies
    Put it in cereal
Put it in bread dough/pizza bases
    Use it in protein fluff
Put it in any baking that uses dry ingredients

Basically if you can palate it, it'll go in anything.

Which flavor did you get? Millionaires shortbread, rocky road and choc peanut cookie are my favourite.
