Losing Weight Without Exercise Due To Injury

I have had a recent serious lower back injury and am going through pain management/physical therapy & may be having a spinal fusion surgery if contemporary treatment fails. So far nothing has worked. I am working to lower my overall calorie intake to a minimum to help me lose weight. The doctor suggested I lose weight to help take pressure off my spine and to aide in a successful surgery recovery. If anyone would like to share their experience with losing weight without exercise I would love to hear it. Thank You.

The key to losing weight is diet and calorie deficit. Eat less than you burn and you'll lose weight. So eat below or just at the recommended calories MFP set you and you will continue to lose weight Just keep your diet on form and go for walks0

Set MFP activity level to sedentary. Choose a weight loss goal. Eat at a deficit.0

If your doc or physical therapist has cleared you for some specific light exercises like walking, do that for now so you can keep moving. I lost weight by paying close attention to food. Use a food scale. Rather than thinking about foods you cannot eat, maybe think about adding foods to your days rather than taking out foods: asparagus, kale swiss chard, cabbage, bok choy, romaine, eggplant, winter and summer squash, green beans, green peas, snow peas, mushrooms, cauliflower, broccoli, brussel sprouts, okra, bell papers. Also meat, eggs, seafood -- or whatever. As long as the number of calories is low, you will lose weight -- so you can still eat foods with lots of calories -- just less often or in smaller amounts than you used to.0

I recommend you research nutritional ketosis. It has done wonders for me. Lost 20 pounds in six weeks do very minimal exercise. I also know people who are following this way of eating and lost large amounts of weight doing no exercise because of disabilities.0

Everyone will confirm that all you need is a calorific deficit for weight loss.
What roada rose said above, talk to your Dr and PT and chek what are the limits of exercise available. Theres normally something you can do and exercise often helps with the pain. Walking, water aerobics, recumbent cycle machine at the gym will support your back.0 -
Thank you for your comments and advice smiley: The problem is I have spondylolithesis. The L5 vertebrae is sliding forward on S1 and compressing the spinal nerve. With that I have leg pain, weakness, and numbness along with the back pain. I am very limited on any activity including walking.0

Exercise is unnecessary to weight loss. It's all about the deficit.0
