I joined the y to assist with my weight loss goals. i have all types of cardio, weight, and a pool available to me. anyone have a baseline starting point for a 229 lb guy?

Not sure what you mean by "Baseline". I started out at 230 lbs. January 2010. My major daily exercise is treadmill - I've worked myself up to 80 - 90 minutes a day at relativly low intensity 800 - 1000 calories according to the Nordic Track computer. I am now down to around 205. Since I am 66 years old, you will probably do a lot better with less time in the saddle so to speak.
There might be someone at the Y who can coach you a little bit. you want to be careful that you don't over do it. If you hurt yourself and have to drop out you have to start al over again.
I find that when I plateau I can punch through if I can get out for three or four hours in my Kayak.0
