Hi all
Just brought a weighted hula hoop and wondered whether anyone has tried/ know anyone who has had results from hula hooping.

It is good for toning (when done consistently) but like all exercise, only works when combined with sensible eating. There is a hula-hooping group here on MFP.

Haven't read the articles myself but it seems like a hooping community and source of reading material. Just remember that calorie burns from exercise are usually exaggerated and weight loss is all about calories in vs calories out. No doubt there are health benefits from this form of exercise and if you enjoy it no doubt you will do it more consistently.

Last summer, I used a 5lb hula hoop to drop weight. I began in June doing 20 minutes (10 in morning, 10 in evening) everyday. Then July I bumped it up to 40 minutes (20 morning, 20 evening), and August I did 60 minutes (30 morning, 30 evening). In those 3 months on a 1400 calorie diet, I went from 166lbs to 132lbs.

I loved it because you could watch guilty pleasure shows, read books, or even play games while exercising. I switched to Insanity now to really build up muscle, but I still love my hoop.
