At home strength training

I do all my work outs at home when time allows around the kids. I would like to begin a strength training program as well. I have hand weights. I looked at the 5x5 program and though this looks fantastic I don't have the bench needed. Can anyone recommend something I can do from home? Thank you!

Your best bet would be starting with a bodyweight routine if equipment is limited.
YAYOG has a phone app.
You could also check out r/bodyweightfitness:

You'll probably only derive benefit from 5x5 with dumbbells if you have a sufficient range/weight available to keep driving progressive overload.

Or TRX? My neighbor hung one on her tree on her patio. I took a class at a gym but want to get one for home.0

Bodyweight exercises are definitely the way to go for now. You could use your dumbbells as well (if they are heavy enough, not little 5lb aerobic weights). If they are, just stick with bodyweight exercises for now.0

Body weight exercises are the best. I do a routine every three days or so- 1-2 minute plank, 10 push-ups, 10 knee push ups, one hand stand and repeat 5-7 times. I follow this with a 23 minute dumbbell routine (fitness blender), swim specific resistance band exercises and depending on how I'm feeling I might add 10 minutes of core.0

There is an enormous amount of bodyweight information out there these days. Some is still steeped in misinformation, but the above suggestions are legit. You can get very strong using only your bodyweight.0 -
Hasfit / Fitness Blender/ Jessica Smith all on youtube, loads of strength workouts using free weights. ..
Also Pilates is excellent for strength too, try Cassey Ho, pop Pilates also on youtube0 -
I have been using The Workout Trainer app. It totally has helped me. I'm a sahm with 3.0

Fitness Blender and YouTube are full of great videos which use only bodyweight, dumbbells or tubing. Maybe start with something like Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred (YouTube) or one of her other video series, while you look around for something that's a good fit.
If you don't mind investing in a book, Convict Conditioning or You Are Your Own Gym are both bodyweight exercise books that I've seen recommended a lot.0 -
Awesome! Thank you for some ideas! I will look into these. I have done Jillian michaels 30 day and loved how she incorporated weights. She even has a dvd that is more focused on weights. I'm doing t25 now but thinking about incorporating her weight video somewhere0

I would strongly recommend starting a new savings account to store the money you need for your new home gym. If anything, I think that's the single best piece of advice for the average person who wants to begin strength training at home.0 -
I am currently doing Body Beast through Beachbody. If you'd like more info you can add me-1

I'm about to start 21 Day Fix from Beachbody, and it's a great combination of strength and cardio, and all you need is dumbbells! You can add me for more info.-2

You can find everything you need for StrongLifts 5X5 (including a bench) for cheap on Craigslist or other sites, if you're international.0
