Weight loss forever

Hi

I am worried about my attitude to weightloss. I know I can lose some...maybe a 20 lbs, then I think I can't lose anymore because that would make me "thin, thin" and that's not me, so it won't happen or rather I don't allow it to happen. Am I scared of being thin?

also are there any of you on here that have really kept weight off for 3 or 4 years or more? I also worry I will just put it all back on again.

Any thoughts?

Thanks x

If you don't make eating health and exercising a way of life, you will gain it back. If you think you're too big right now, lose weight until you feel good and look good to yourself, then figure out what you need to maintain that weight.

I'll answer your questions in reverse.
I realized at the end of 2005 that I had gained WAY too much weight, so at the beginning of Jan 2006 I went on SlimFast. I lost about 40 pounds before Easter on the "two shake a day and one meal" plan, then went on one shake a day for a couple of months before going off. I did actually lower my final weight loss goal because when I reached my original goal (of about 30lb lost) i was not satisfied. I am now 5 years from that initial weight loss and yes, I have kept it off!! At one point I thought I was "too thin" because a lot of people told me I was too thin, so I intentionally gained back 5 lb, then accidentally gained back about an extra 8 which I had to lose again. Right now I am trying to build muscle, because I think the mistake I made was to go on too strict a diet without exercising, so I lost a lot of the muscle along with the fat. MFP is helping with that.

So- you can do it!! And don't be afraid to adjust your goals as you go along.
  • I think that you are avoiding weight loss because you may actually lose weight! does that make sense? it's almost like being afraid that you're actually going to succeed and keep the weight off. My advise just push through you will know when enough weight is enough but don't avoid losing weight because you don't want to be skinny....
