Is it ok to stay under your calories but go over on some macros like fat or carbs?

Macros are unimportant for wight loss.

You'll lose weight no matter what, if your calories are right.

Whether it's healthy depends on how much above or below they are and how often.

My iron I want to go quite a lot over with, as I am anaemic. Protein I don't mind going over as I am trying to do high proteins and low carbs. Hence carbs I like to be under. Saturated fat I also like to be under.

Also 1 day of them being way out isn't really an issue. I try to get them to balance more over a week, so that I can have a bit of a blow out when I need it.
  • Macros are important. It is not good to over indulge in fats and carbs but neglect your protien. Without protien your body can't function, if your cells get too much glucose they will cut off the absorption process and the rest of said glucose will be stored (as fat). Never ignore macros. Use them in conjunction with counting calories for the best results. I use a 40/30/30 ration 40% of my daily intake is protien, 30% is fats, and 30% is carbs. This combined with a caloric deficit will produce weight loss results. Do the math right and you will get your body the way you want it to be! :)

I use the macros as more of a guideline. If I go over, I want it to be in protein or fiber. As long as you're not going completely overboard - like completely cutting out fat/carbs and tripling the protein number, then you should be okay. But really - as long as your calories are right, you'll lose weight.

I've found that if I go overboard on carbs and don't have much protein or fiber in a day, I'm pretty hungry. If I focus on protein, the carbs/fats take care of themselves. That way, it allows me to have a handful of pretzels if I want, or a couple of light cheese sticks to get in a little carbs/little protein.

    For what it's worth....
