Golf Calories

I put in the exercise list, Golf while pulling the cart, and it listed it at over 1000 calories in 3 hours. Is that accurate for the average person? Anyone know?

    1000 calories?! That sounds extremely high to me - especially pulling a cart. Even carrying your bag would not be that high. I'll stayed tuned for this ......

    The only way to know how many calories you are actually burning is by wearing an HRM. I would strongly suggest getting one. I have one and I love it! MFP is just giving an estimate and 1000 cals sounds like a lot to me as well. Who knows though? That would be awesome to burn that much doing something you love to do. :)

    I know golf burns a lot of calories, but I am not sure if that is correct. I think you would be safe estimating at like 600 calories personally. but I am not sure.

    but 600 puts you at 200 calories an hour? I am not sure tho.

    Well, I checked a couple other sites and found them to be about the same. about.com gave me 292 per hour at 150 lbs. Healthstatus.com gave me 231 per hour just walking 2.0 mph. Add swinging a golf club, pulling a cart, and the fact I walk at least 2.8 miles per hour I feel 350 per hour would not be much of an over estimation.

    It does sound like a lot of calories burned, but just remember this......on the average, a golf course is 6500 yards, give/take of course, and throw in walking distances in between greens to tee boxes and other misc, it can roughly equate to 5 miles of walking. Now throw in the fact that you're also swinging a weighted club, kneeling, and bending....it's quite possibly feasible. (I'm an avid golfer btw)

    Love golf... my handicap bounces from 17-20 depending on how much I get to play... I'm basically a bogey golfer.
