My mom used to feed me soy milk when I was a baby because she was afraid I was lactose intolerant (idk with her!)... Probably why I love soy milk now! Was never a fan of full cream milk unless it was a certain local brand (Bear Brand). Luckily I found a good low fat milk I love as much as soy milk, also local (Selecta Fortified LowFat Milk). As much as I'd love to have both in my fridge, I usually have the low fat one since my dad is the one shopping and we're usually on a budget. That, and no one in the household likes soy milk boo
Basically, both have their pros and cons, but it's really about your taste buds/personal preference.0 -

I don't really drink milk, but I eat lots of dairy. I like it for the protein, because it tastes good, and because I feel better when including it in my diet than otherwise (I am not the least bit lactose intolerant, it seems). I am not anti milk, I just don't really like drinking calories except for the very rare protein shake.
I'm not anti soy either (I had tofu just yesterday), but I don't particularly want to add a bunch of extra soy to my diet and I simply don't care for soymilk based products (I do think they are the best sub for dairy due to the protein content). Thus, I tend to limit my soy consumption to semi regular tofu (which I enjoy).
My thought is that whatever you prefer and feel best drinking/eating is the best choice.0 -
I've been drinking almond milk. I like it in my cereal and shakes.0

I am lactose intolerant and have recently hopped on the cashew milk train. That stuff is TASTY! I would just drink plain milk if it agreed with me.0

I cut my dairy a few months ago (going vegan was my new years resolution). I don't really miss it. I use soymilk and coconut milk in my cereal in the morning and a soy creamer for tea and occasionally I need it for cooking. But I wouldn't say I eat an inordinate amount of soy products. I would say I feel better consuming the dairy replacements than real dairy. I don't feel as weighed down and sluggish.0

I love milk! I'd drink it all day if that didn't put me over my calories. Milk is good for protein and I think it tastes good. Soya milk... not so much. It tastes like watered down milk. Blegh. The sweetened stuff, and flavoured stuff (banana or chocolate) is nice but it's a calorie bomb and totally not worth it imo.0

Tip: don't avoid foods based on bad press.
Eat what nourishes you. Both dairy and the milk substitutes (soy, almond) provide fat-soluble vitamins, calcium, easily digestible protein, and carbohydrates. My national health agency recommends daily servings of milk. I am required to include these in my diet to forestall osteoporosis.
I'm an old lady now and I can list off foods that spent time on the "baddy" list that later turned out to be just fine. This includes bacon, coffee, eggs, milk, bread, beef, pork, tuna, soda, gum, sweets, margarine, and butter.

If you're fortunate enough to have the dairy-absorbing mutation, don't waste it. That would be foolish, IMO.
Soy is estrogenic; don't.

The macros in milk are really good for general health. They oughta be; it's the only food baby mammals get and we grow tremendously on it. As one mammal to another, I'd say drink milk.

When it comes to dairy, there are just too many conflicting studies and articles. I think you should judge based on how it makes you feel.
I for one am not at all lactose intolerant, and so I love dairy. It's filling and delicious, available everywhere so it is a convenient snack, full of protein and calcium, and did I mention delicious?0 -
I am lactose intolerant, but I love milk. I don't care for soy milk. I buy Lactaid milk so I can still have my whole milk (so good). Plus it has all that protein and calcium.
Really, it's just a matter of preference for you and anyone else, unless you have an allergy to casein (the protein in milk).0 -
Dairy is excellent and is generally very good for you if you are one of the people who can digest it. I have my own dairy goat and have all the milk, soft cheese, and yogurt I can use--and I'll be making butter and buttermilk once I have an efficient way to separate cream, as well as lotions and soaps in the future.
Not only baby mammals crave milk--all of my adult dogs enjoy milk and beg for it, as well as for the whey that is produced when I make cheese.0 -

Same but I'm still on almond milk - I don't really like the flavor of the soy milk. Cashew milk sounds yummy, if I ever get through this carton I'll get some
The only reason I could think of to avoid dairy (if it didn't give me cramps from hell) would be the antibiotics. I have some paranoia about that.

How would you know if you were allergic to it? I can drink it during the day but not on evenings - not sure why. Although I know I'm not lactose intolerant.0 -
cottage cheese might be a good choice, low in fat and high in protein0

milk is cheap as hell so why change unless theres a certain benefit the other have over it.0

Home made hazelnut milk taste the best!0

We didn't have it growing up and I am lactose intolerant. So I drink other things instead.0

Apparently birds think it's good for them, too.

You would know. People who are allergic to casein get very ill from it. I'm lactose-intolerant; I get very nauseated from dairy products and also bloated and have hours of sharp pains after eating or drinking them.0 -
I don't drink milk or use it on cereal because I don't like it. I use soy and almond milk. I do eat other dairy like cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt and use milk for cooking.0

I actually do like milk but was concerned that I'm drinking too much of it - just from things I've read online. I love a latte from Starbucks too!

I've never been a huge milk drinker & mostly used 2% milk in cereal before MFP.
Now I usually use Silk brand (Coconut, Almond Milk with a Touch Of Honey, & their Cashew Milk) & have tried some of the Almond Breeze milks but found them to be very watery. I like that they're lower calorie so that I can spend more calories on MORE food:D.0 -
I can’t recommend any as I’m not really a fan of both dairy and soya milk. Have you tried almond milk? I find this milk a lot better and healthier. You need to keep your calcium up? Well, milk is not the only source of calcium. You can also get your calcium from non-dairy products like collard green, which is packed with around 268 milligrams per cup.0

I drink both. Unsweetened soy when I want fewer carbs and milk when I want a milk protein with more carbs. They digest at different rates. Probably not important for most people though0
