You might want to post this in the technical help section.
In the meantime, you could always just subtract the fiber from the carbs to get your net carbs

Never. It's a US construct and MFP is an international app.

What is the difference between total carbs and net carbs?
How does it affect our bodies? Which one should we be focusing on?

In the US, fiber is counted as carbs. In the rest of the world, fiber and carbs are counted as two different things. Net carbs is simply another way of saying "using carbs like the rest of the free world."

If for no other reason, it would clear up a lot of the miscommunications that occur when people from different countries are comparing food diaries and meal plans. Unfortunately, that won't happen unless the FDA finally gets around to fixing the labels.

Thanks JPW. I was wondering if just going by the normal carb count, not net affected our weight loss in any way. Thanks for taking the time to explain

It's a lot more significant if you're doing LC/Keto or even just keeping an eye on it for health reasons. Some fiber isn't digested at all (All-Bran). Other fiber attracts water and slows digestion (think nuts and berries). Lumping them in with orange juice or skittles is a little disingenuous, but it's how TPTB have decided to do it.

I'm in Canada and here it's hit or miss. Sometimes the fibre is included with the carbs and sometimes not. It is a carb however regardless of whether it is digested like sugar or not. I would rather have a higher carb count that is accurate than try to delude myself that some carbs don't count. Sugar alcohols are not supposed to count either. But they do a number on my digestive system. I'd still rather have them included in the total count, and listed in the ingredients.

Here is a third party script that will tell your MFP settings to allow Net Carb calculation. https://github.com/Surye/mfp-keto-userscript
