My daughter introduced me to this site - been on for only a few days, but already I'm thrilled.

So - a bit about me. I'm the mom of four kids, all grown-up (and two adorable dogs - used to be three, but my old guy finally crossed over Rainbow Bridge last fall). I live in the Boston area - and have a long, long journey to reach my goal My daughter, Noelle, who got me here on this site, is getting married in a bit less than a year & a half, so that's my time frame to reach my goal. (Not only do I want my thinner, healthier self to appear in those wedding photos - but I want to be able to enjoy the day w/out collapsing - something that could happen right now).

I love to cook & bake - most of my baking will be put on hold, but whatever food creations I am going to work on from now on, will be a lighter, healthier version (leaving any baking for special occasions, too). I have a LOT of weight that has to come off - and I'm determined to do it.

One thing that surprised me - I'm loving logging my food intake! It is so amazing how easy it is to eat too much - not only calories & carbs, but sodium, too (I have hypertension - right now I'm taking three meds to keep it at a normal range). I'll be very happy when I no longer have to take them - but for now, I'm also happy my doctor found the right combo to keep me away fr that silent killer.

Welcome! I totally understand how you feel as do so many other wonderful people on this site! MFP has helped me SO MUCH with understanding not only how much to eat, but what my body needs as far as protein vs fat vs sugar, etc. I was introduced to this site just last month by a friend from highschool who contacted me on Facebook & told me about it. I am SO GLAD she did! The super support and advice I've gotten at MFP has been invaluable so far! After yo-yo'ing with my weight since the age of 14, I'm FINALLY feeling like I can make these life changes for good & keep going! It's a wonderful feeling to finally start to "get it!"

Feel free to friend me if you'd like & best wishes on this journey! :flowerforyou:

Thanks so much for the (very fast!) welcome, Mindy & KTalada.

I had a weight problem when I was a teen, but got control of it very quickly. Never had a problem (was a constant 137 at 5' 8") - until I got pregnant. Ate way too much, esp. food that wasn't good for me. Gained too much & never took it off, except for the same yo-yoing dieting stuff. Flash forward to now - I just turned 58 (yikes - how'd that happen??!!) and now there are no more excuses - I either take control of this, or the result will be a much worse alternative.

It's great to know that if I 'fall', I can figure where I went wrong - and instead of feeling guilt (which leads to more bad eating) make good changes the next day. Last night I ate am unplanned whole bag of a Popchip type of snack (forget the name - it's kind of generic, so I just used the Popchip info on my food log). I realized I ate it because I was actually hungry. So today I went out, got some lean chicken & salad & fruit, so I can have a decent meal instead of the crap I ate yesterday.

Each day is a journey into itself.
